What is going on here in the United States? It seems as though our elected officials are on another planet….or at least some made up Fantasy Island.
We have a would be new testament based savior whose every action is completely contrary to the New Testaments as I read it. We have a “vacuum chamber” congress whose every action to date has been so focused on a tree that they are missing the forest issues. We have a main stream media who seems to be looking for every story from the talking points that come out of a very few intellectual ideologues whose agenda seems bent on tearing the country apart. We have an economy that deepens the split between the haves and have nots every day. We have a tax system that has been converted over the last few years to a money maker for the top 2% of the wage earners.
The result is we now have millions more Americans living below the poverty line trying to find food or their table. We have documented voting irregularities; billions of taxpayer dollars making connected contractors rich while the work lags. We have treasonous behavior with ties back to the administration. We have elected officials who instead of protecting our rights as citizens seem intent on curbing our freedoms.
Where are all of the hard hitting investigative journalists? It is one thing to report about the issue and bury the story on page 21, but how about investigating the wrong doing? Take a stance and inform the public…..What is going on?
My bad I suppose as maybe I am just waking up to reality and I don't like it!
This issue hit me as I was looking into John Dean’s new book: "Conservatives Without Conscience". It seems part of Dean’s point is that we are leaning to a “pre-fascism” point in the direction the country is going. That is a chilling statement…about time I woke up.
It is even more chilling when you read some of the work of TJ Templeton at "The Project for the Old American Century" (www.oldamericancentury.org ). Templeton lays most of it out in a group of papers and research. You can also do a quick search on fascism at Wikipedia which gives another sobering look at neo-Fascism. When you start adding it all up…I personally do not like the result.
Here is my question….Why do I have to read the BLOGS to get the news and find out what is really going on? Why do I not read anything in the MSM about the "Project for the New American Century" (PNAC) and the fact that many of these seemingly neo-fascist types ended up in the Bush Administration? Including but not limited to Cheney, Rumsfeld, Libby, Wolfowitz, and Bolton? If the media has such a “liberal bias” they should be all over the story.
Why do I have to hunt down internet sites to learn that the basic tenets of the PNAC and hence our administration align extremely closely with the likes of the political basics of Mussolini, Hitler, Pinochet Suharto and other rabid fascists?
I mean I really didn’t have to do that much digging…the information is there. Is it not news when the direction of the country is teetering fascism? Is it not news when the rights of individual Americans are being slammed by a doctrine that favors corporate elitists?
For those of you are tempted to label this as a partisan rant as if those dirty liberals are at it again, think again. This is not a Dem vs. Repub issue…this is not a liberal – conservative issue…this is not a left wing vs. right wing issue. On the contrary, this is a non-partisan issue. This is an American issue. This is about the direction our country has taken. This is about civil liberties yes but also about an economy that has tanked for all but the richest of us…this is about a protracted war of choice and a forgotten hunt for the perpetrator of 9-11…this is about skyrocketing costs for energy and healthcare that are hamstringing Americans whose buying power is eroding. This is not about liberals and conservatives, this is about a group of ideologues who find themselves in a position of power and who are abusing the trust of the voters. This is an issue for all Americans.
You can go to the PNAC website, (www.newamericancentury.org) and read all of the papers and ideas this “think tank” came up with. You can see who the members are and see how they have meant to “push” the nation…and realize how they have succeeded.
It is a bit edgy as some of the messages seem fine. For me the issue is about “think tanks”. You see a think tank is just that, they come up with ideas do some research and bring up more ideas. The problem is when you try to implement ideas without proper debate and sanity checks. The results many times can not be predicted but if you plan properly, contingencies can be developed.
Here is the hole for PNAC…no contingencies…no plans. Is it a wonder we have no plan for Iraq? PNAC never developed one, they just had an idea and political persuasion won.
Is it a wonder the administration has no clue as to how to fix the economic issues facing America? They think everything is fine because their top tier friends say it is. They are not even concerned about reigning in the fiscal misadventure they are on or the balance of trade issues because corporate profits and executive earnings are up. Again political persuasion reigns.
On the surface this may look like an “old century” vs. a “new century” discussion…just a play on the names of the websites if you will. Some might be prone to say: “Well…yes, but, things changed n 9-11…”, hence the need for the “new century” thinking. I say, not so fast.
Once you read some of the PNAC doctrinal papers you will quickly see that much of the thinking, indeed the attack strategy on Iraq and the war/defense industry plan was all developed in the 1990s. September 11, 2001 only gave this cabal the excuse to execute on the strategies.
It doesn’t take long to see that prior to 2001, PNAC paid very little attention if any to terrorism (Other than to complain about President Clinton’s policies of course) and certainly had no strategy for an Osama Bin Laden and hence no follow through and plan to catch the real enemy. BTW there is also no paper on natural disasters and the handling of emergencies or even a homeland security strategy. Apparently these issues would be resolved by military might. How’s that for the whole “think tank approach”, to running the country?
You mean to tell me that with all the thinking that was going on no one thought outside the box to a terrorist attack?
Everything else we are seeing from this administration is pretty much on the PNAC plan: executive control and power grab; defense industry build up; war in Iraq and the rest of the Middle East. If you read between the lines you can also see the effort to fill the judicial system with supporters and the disregard for congressional oversight and the need to heap fear and uncertainty on Americans.
A tidy plan, but I do not pretend to say that the entire misadventures of the country can be laid at the feet of the PNAC pundits. Maybe I am making too much out of this, but how would I know?
Hey you Americans out there…Are you starting to feel like a mushroom? It is quite apparent that the administration thinks you are…or at least will turn into one…as long as they keep you in the dark and feed you a continuing and growing pile of sh*t.
I guess I will say that I am finally waking up…When will this great “liberal biased” media start shaking the trees so the whole nation wakes up?
