Some
suggestions from the annual DLC meeting-
"Our goal is to broaden the Democratic Party," said Al From, the DLC's founder.
On religion, he and other moderates said Democrats must strike a careful balance — talking about their faith without shifting positions on "values issues" to score political points.
Moderates also encouraged Democrats to link morality with bread-and-butter issues, like income and health care, rather than only talking about faith as it relates to hot-button issues like abortion and gay marriage.
Great idea on linking "morality with bread-and-butter issues". Wish you'd thought of it.
Dean, Feb 06:
"Only Republicans in Congress would craft a deficit reduction plan that actually increases the deficit," said Democratic National Committee Communications Director Karen Finney. "Only Republicans in Congress would cut vital programs by nearly $40 billion, couple it with more than $55 billion in tax cuts for the wealthy, and then call such moves fiscally responsible. Only Republicans in Congress would cut billions from Medicaid and attack student loan programs to pay for tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans."
"Together, America can do better than this immoral budget.

For nearly nine years of Republican Congress, American workers have been denied an increase in the federal minimum wage - it has been frozen at $5.15 per hour. $5.15 an hour, despite nine years of rising health care and energy costs and inflation. That is immoral.http://www.democrats.org/a/2006/06/house_democrati_2.phpDean, May 06:
It is immoral to continue to have millions of people living in the shadows in America, subject to exploitation, not afforded basic human and civil rights, and possibly depressing wages for U.S. workers.http://www.democrats.org/a/2006/05/immigration_-_t_1.phpReid, Feb 06:
“President Bush’s budget continues to put special interests first while making worse the financial pressures confronting American families. This is an immoral and irresponsible approach that does not reflect the values of the American people.”http://www.democrats.org/a/2006/02/_president_bush.phpDean, Nov 05:
The vast majority of Americans believe it is immoral to lets kids go hungry. We agree. The other party cuts school lunches (they just can’t seem to leave that one alone.)
Americans believe it is immoral that not everyone has some kind of health insurance. We agree.
The vast majority of Americans believe that government overreaching into personal and family decisions is wrong. We agree.
Americans believe that it is immoral to leave huge debts to our children and grandchildren. We agree.
Americans believe that using issues to divide us as a country to win elections is bad for America. We will restore America’s sense of community.http://www.democrats.org/a/2005/11/governor_dean_o_2.phpCBC Chair Watt:
The Congressional Black Caucus, composed of 43 men and women of faith of whom several are ministers or children of ministers, believe that it is biblically and theologically unacceptable to attempt to exploit God and religion to fortify political positions. We also believe it is inappropriate behavior for elected officials to seek a political upper hand by declaring that those who do not support a particular political agenda are not people of faith or are against people of faith.http://www.house.gov/list/press/nc12_watt/cbcpr_4252005.htmlLike that? Or must the pleasing scent of burnt offerings simultaneously loft heavenward? If the DLC can name some Democrats (beyond the media/RNC driven myth about Kerry's supposed discomfort in talking about his faith, so obligingly supplied here in the AP article) who have "run from" their faith, they should do it and be done.
