Dean spending it all in Iowa and NH wasn't a bad gamble
It was probably their only chance to win and they knew it. Just look at what happened to Kerry. He won Iowa and NH and is running away with the nomination. If Dean won Iowa and NH, Dean would be too.

It's a consequence of the front-loaded primary. The momentum from the early wins builds exponentially.

1. apparantly it was
but I think this simplifies things.

I don't believe he actually spent all that money only in those two states. he was opening offices over like 37 states. that takes money and there was no value in spending it out there at such an early point nor so widespread. and I understand they were some mighty fine offices, atypically so.

2. I agree
It looks bad in retrospect because it failed, but if he would've pulled it off, he'd more than likely be in the position Kerry is now.

3. he would still have money problems
as he spent unwisely across the country.

4. Not true.
It was his mouth that told the truth. As he said, a gaffe is when you tell the truth and the folks in Washington DC think you shouldn't have.

He is an honest man.

5. Don't count Dean out yet
The pressure to coronate may be there, but last I checked Dean is behind only 100 or so delegates, and only 10% have voted.

Kerry: 214 delegates
Dean: 136

I just gave $100 for the man who spoke out against the war that everyone now KNOWS is a sham.

Of course I'm ABB after the nominee is selected, but its pretty interesting how Dean had gotten so much negative media attention, which drove his numbers down, then he's seen, quite prematurely IMHO, as an "also-ran" cuz he's working an unconventional strategy.

Keep your eye on the delegate counts my friends, and don't lose heart!

7. Question:
Where did you get your stats? I'm curious because I've seen different numbers at different sites.

All I've been able to find is this:

http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2004/primaries/pages/scorecard/index.html
http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2004/primaries/pages/scorecard/graphical.html

Kerry=260
Dean=121
Edwards=107
Clark=81

Sharpton shows 9 which, since we now know he's a bought and paid for RNC disruptor, should be forfeited and his candidacy revoked.
His assignment from Roger Stone has been completed.
Mission accomplished:Hatchet job on Dean done very well.
Now, go away "Rev."

I sent another $200 to Dean this morning.

No media whore is going to tell me who THEY have decided the front runner is.
No GOP/RNC smear campaign is going to change my mind.

6. Absolutely -- It's Another False Scandal
I heard a campaign expert on NPR being asked about the financial situation of the various campaigns. At one point, she was asked what would happen if a candidate (presumably like Dean) had a significant amount of money left after dropping out of the race.

She was a little taken aback, and said that if you're a candidate, you need to be spend almost all your money by each primary date. If you have much left, you're misallocating your resources.
