A Fragile Democratic Base
Some analysts of the preliminary elections results of the Democratic Party in America think that candidate John Kerry's antecedence, at this early stage, is attributed to marginal reasons, which is not headed by his proposal of alternative policies to those of George W. Bush. Since candidate Howard Dean, whose chances seem about to collapse today, was the candidate preceding his competitors, including Kerry, who was about, a month ago, to be cancelled from the considerations of the observers.
How and why the surprising change in the voters' mood?
Of the most remarkable explanations of the voters' switch against Dean is that he behaved rudely with an independent voter who attended one of his elections rallies on the eve of voting in Iowa. Dean interrupted the citizen who asked him why he fervently hated George W. Bush, and whether he should, meaning Dean, show more respect to the president, who could become his neighbor one day! Dean was not content with only interrupting that citizen, but he harshly scolded him and told him: "Bush is not my neighbor. Sit in your place."
As for Kerry, the turning point in the voters' mood came following the appearance of a Vietnam War veteran during one of the elections rallies to say that he owes his life to Kerry who saved his life after he was injured in one of the battles in Vietnam.
