Whoever the nominee I'm dreading the VP announcement..
2000 made me realize how important the VP slot was and is. I know a ton of people who weren't crazy about bush* but who liked Cheney and who voted according to their comfort level about his VP position.

And I know a ton of people for whom the Leiberman pick played right into the hands of people's worst instincts about Gore (separating himself from Clinton, pandering to the conservatives).

I just remember when Gore announced his pick it just hit me inside with a big, loud thud. And I'm just so worried that whoever the nominee is, will do the same thing and make a really poor choice. I know Leiberman played well in some areas (some say he made Florida competetive), but I think it was more harm than good in the end. And I just really am dreading a poor VP pick when the time comes.

1. I think the Dems might do something exciting this year......
I bet Diane Feinstein will be on a short list this year along with Clark(no matter what he says, he won't turn down a chance to be VP). If Kerry gets the nomination, he may need an exciting candidate to invigorate the base. The Dems will juice things up this year...I hope!

They need to get someone in there who at least knows the meaning of "inspirational". Don't hold your breath though, they'll pick someone who's "safe". *yawn*

11. Disagree
Feinstein? Please no.

And Clark will not be a Veep. He didn't get into this thing to be a VP. Clark is in this thing to provide leadership.

17. Agree on Feinstein
We need every Senator we can get in the Senate... And, I do think Clark would take the VP slot if it was offered. Yes, I know he says he is running to win and provide leadership - but, it is also the nature of a military man to not admit that he would settle for second place. But, the VP is only a heartbeat away from the Presidency.

(And, please do not bash me, I like Clark - and Kerry and Edwards and Dean, and a candidate picker I filled out said that Sharpton was my ideal candidate...)

27. She's too old
She's 70 years old and may be considered, she did endorse Kerry early, but I think her age takes her out of consideration.

3. Yes, but even if dick is not running with him...
in order to excite independents and moderates he'd need to choose someone like Gulliani who is pro-choice and pro-gay rights. That would seriously piss off their base even more than he's already done.

4. You have to remember that Cheney is the one who made the VP slot
so powerful. It hasn't been like this during past administrations. I agree, it will be interesting to see who the eventual nominee is and who he selects as his running mate. It will be a decision with alot of impact.

at the time.

10. As long as I'm fantasizing, I'll choose Molly Ivins as VP
The veep choice often produces a WTF reaction among the populace anyway, so it might as well be a happy WTF.

I would love to see Sen. Ron Wyden (D-Oregon) as veep, despite that disastrous Medicare vote. He's taken some bold positions at times, and his voting record is pretty darn good.

I can only hope that the eventual nominee will learn from Gore's mistakes and not repeat this particular one.

15. Presidents tend to pick VP's that will not overshadow them....
As when Bush 1 chose Dan Quayle. That is the accepted model. That is why it is very unlikely anyone would pick Clark, except maybe Dean, but for different reasons. He would need someone to give him foreign policy credentials.

18. Clark should consider Kucinich as VP
That would totally wipe away any lingering concerns in people like me about which side of the fence Clark truly grazes his cattle.

Who would pair up well with Clark? What kind of person would be a good VP for Clark?

22. Same here
I'm afraid of being some halfwit DLCer like my senator Evan Bayh.

If that happens, they are going to drive off plenty of progressives yet again - mark my words. I knew plenty who were fine with Gore in 2000, but wanted absolutely NOTHING to do with Liberman.

24. Zig-Zag Zell
No Democratic nominee will pick Zell! He's already announced he is campaigning for Bush and was on tv the other night in several players saying how all the Dem primary contestants are no good. Then again, he is known as Zig-Zag Zell here in GA. He'll do anything, say anything that will feather his own nest. Right now he's looking to be a good Repub to get on corporate boards when he retires this year.

Whose names are being suggested.

Why not a real liberal?

That is, if they can find one.

Any left in the party?

26. I wouldn't rule out Clark
He is running for the Presidency but if the Democratic party presented to him that he would be key to beating * he would consider it his Patriotic duty to do so. I can't beleive that he would say no to a call to duty. I would much prefer him to be Pres. but he could could be a powerhouse on the bottom of the ticket too.
