Webb favors Lamont over Lieberman

RICHMOND, Va. Democratic Senate candidate Jim Webb says he would NOT hesitate to support Democrat Ned Lamont over Democrat-turned-independent Joe Lieberman in Connecticut this year.
Webb was for years a Republican and is now challenge Republican Senator George Allen's bid for a second term. Webb was emphatic in backing his new party's nominee over Lieberman.

Webb is a decorated Marine rifle company commander in Vietnam and author of six novels based on his combat there. He served as a top military aide in the Reagan administration, including a year as Navy secretary.

Connecticut Democrats nominated Lamont over Lieberman in a primary earlier this month. That's because they are unhappy with Lieberman's support for Bush's resolve to keep U-S troops in Iraq indefinitely.

2. Kinda shocking in that he's pretty centrist himself, but...

he's not exactly a friend of the Iraq War, which puts him more in the Lamont camp.

Plus, he just turned Democrat, so if he were to support Lieberman, it wouldn't look good to his new-found party. I know I, for one, would be a bit upset.
