Just heard on NPR re: TX-22 special election

My local NPR station reports that five people met the filing deadline to appear on the ballot for the special election to fill Tom DeLay's unexpired term. In addition to Ms. Sekula-Gibbs (the officially anointed "Republican" write-in candidate), there is another Republican who is also a write-in candidate for the general election, and another person (whom I am assuming is also Republican) with a long, complex name. I can easily foresee voters trying to remember who the person they are supposed to write in is, and having a vague recollection that it's "the lady with the long name."

Also, Nick Lampson has kept his eye on the big prize and will not appear on the special election ballot, just the one for the general election for a full 2-year term. Kudos to him.

It's just a ploy to give the 'Lican partisans a better chance of spelling their write-in candidate's correctly (and hence avoiding the large number of 'spoiled ballots' that write-in campaigns invariably produce).
