NYT: Rove's Word Is No Longer G.O.P. Gospel
WASHINGTON, Sept. 2 - Karl Rove, the president's chief political adviser, is struggling to steer the Republican Party to
victory this fall at a time when he appears to have the least political authority since he came to Washington, party officials
said.

Mr. Rove remains a dominant adviser to President Bush, administration officials say. But outside the White House, as
President Bush's popularity has waned, and as questions have arisen among republicans about the White House's political
acumen, the party's candidates are going their own way in this difficult election season far more than they have in any other
campaign Mr. Rove has overseen.

Some are disregarding Mr. Rove's advice, despite his reputation as the nation's premier strategist. They are criticizing Mr.
Bush or his policies. They are avoiding public events with the president and Mr. Rove.

Influential conservative commentators have openly broken with the White House, calling into question the continued
enthusiasm of evangelicals, economic conservatives and other groups that Mr. Rove has counted on to win elections. Some
Republicans are ignoring Mr. Rove's efforts to hold the party together on issues like immigration and Iraq.

Poor Karl. And after all he's done ...

1. It's BS
Republicans were given "permission" to distance themselves from B*sh on Iraq for this midterm election cycle, as long as they didn't' stray too far on the "Global War on Terror". This was in a strategy meeting of (IIRC) the RNC and it was Rove that gave them permission.

It was one of his few appearances while he was publicly in the Plame hotseat.

2. Rove's Negativity comes through like the Pig Shit that it is: It has a
Smell akin to STENCH....Like Real Bad...

Rove has seen his days of Negativity over the hill and out of touch...

The Positive Tone the Dems represent overwhelms and there is nothing he or others can do to reverse the tide.

The Democratic Party have no Plan??? Bull shit...a no plan is better than continuing his LOSING plan ....The Dems watch as the Rove Plan sinks...why bother throwing Rove a life preserver....let him and Bush GOP sink on their own doing....

4. Hopeful but dubious am I .
We can only hope that this NYT analysis is on the mark. My concern is that millions of Bushites are so indoctrinated in the Roviavellian themes that they can't/won't change.

Wrapped in the Flag.
Pumped with fear,
Votes in the bag.

7. That's too bad. I'm sorry to hear the Rove is waning with his own..
The Pentagon is in deep doo-doo and now would be Rove's time to shine-reign-pull off a masterpiece. Are they quitting on him too soon?

Now, do I sound like a concerned freeper or what?
