Poll question: Who will it be: Ahnuld or Angelides?
Your best guess, given the state of things today?

1. The adds here for Angelides are weak
They do not attack Ahnuld's record and just promote Angelides as a person that will help the middle class.
They do nothing to motivate the voter let alone discuss why we need to get rid of Ahnuld, whoever is running his add campaign should be fired, NOW.

I made a suggestion to a California Democratic party chair that they needed the media people from Lamott's campaign.
We will see but right now I'm not seeing a strong fight being put forth.

3. Have you seen the ad with Ahnuld cheerleading for Bush?
I think that one is VERY powerful.

6. No, it's not getting any play where I live
But my TV viewing area is not a major metropolitan area, I have hope
but am not seeing anything except the middle class commercial.

Nothing in local nets.Good add- bad market
We had some of the "leader, not an actor" ads last month, nothing about middle class, yet. Wake of Angelides, Torres, etc, and Fuck you Villarigosa if you don't step foward and push our guy.

5. Groper is winning now
He has had non stop ads on tv 24/7 . Phil has had few, he is running a non campaign. He has allowed the pukes to thoroughly define him and he is in a deep hole. Groper is now becoming the conservationist, removing another issue from Phil, the developer. Much thanks go to the negative primary run by both. Westley AND Angelides.Groper has also thrown some positive talking points to the Log Cabin types, tho, not the big one. If the unions don't go after him this next month, he will be after them in Jan.Reccommended this needs to reach state CDP

9. The unions should get busy
They were all over the place in the primaries with their endorcement of Angelides over Westly. Maybe things will pick up after the Labor Day weekend.

8. I have seen little of Angelides
in ads, media, news, etc. He's nearly invisible. I've seen 1 Angelides bumper sticker.

Ahnuld is doing his moderate schtick and talking about global warming and the environment.

I don't really see a lot of interest in the election in CA. Most of the focus seems to be on races in other states.

26. I doubt Arnold would do the moderate thing if he didn't have to.
Which is a sign to me that Angelides can win and Arnold knows it.

10. "It's cool to have the Terminator for Governor."
The minute he was "elected" he was set to serve for as long as one person can be Governor of California.

Unless he bites the head off of a puppy on tv between now and November, he's won.

11. I want to know WTF is Phil doing here?
He is going to let Ahnuld get another term. This whole "I'm a moderate" act is just a set up to win him another term. Come January, Arnie will declare a Conservative Jihad on anything left of the center. He will attack the unions, gay rights, public education....you name it. Phil as very little time left to turn this thing around.

or is it Gray Davis " fighting like a tiger" in the recall. That guy Mulholland is still up there (another Bob Schrum") I never saw one Davis ad in my area.

If they don't run ads and campaign, how the HELL do they expect to win?

16. If Dems passed the Canadian-style health care bill before
the election, and Arnold refused to sign, and Angelides unequivocally committed to signing and supporting it... that might swing the election to the Dems. It would certainly become a major election issue, if not the defining issue of the election. But, barring anything dramatic like that, I think Angelides is a dead duck. If it looks like a dead duck, and it walks like a dead duck, and it quacks like a dead duck... it's a dead duck.

Besides, will Angelides even support the health care bill? Would Davis have signed it? I doubt it.

17. My feeling is it's going to be a lot closer than Dem strategists
care to admit. Angelides is running a disappointing campaign to date. He was in my neck of California last week and barely made a ripple. His statements at a local house gathering seemed vague and unfocused. I know his experience is primarily in state finance, but he's got to do better. Unsurprisingly, he sounded like a CPA and didn't tackle some of the touchstone issues for California. Immigration, growth/cost of living, the growing disparity between the wealthy and the poor in the State, water, oil, pollution and California's role in the national - and international - economies.

I hope to see a more pointed campaign in the coming weeks.

21. It looks like whomever wins, Arnie or Phil, it's going to be a squeaker.
Edited on Sun Sep-03-06 07:24 PM by AX10
Right now, Arnie has the edge. Phil needs to get that edge back to his side.
I don't see either one of them getting a landslide victory. Because this is a Democratic state, Phil should be the one getting such a victory, but that is not going to happen in part because he is running a poor campaign. Arnie is a Repug who just suddenly "found" his moderate side. :eyes: Still there are many people who are pissed at him. Whoever wins will win by a few points.

Edited on Sun Sep-03-06 07:38 PM by AntiFascist
if the Angelides campaign wants to go the moderate route, perhaps they could make headway on the illegal immigrant issue. Stress that Arnold is not doing near enough to secure our border, while at the same time he supports big businesses (very big business in California) who want to permanently maintain a second class of citizenry. (See my journal posting)

On edit: to add some drama to the teevee ads, you could end by closing in on an illegal crossing the border carrying a missile launcher or some sort of weapon, saying "do we really know who may be crossing our borders?"

24. Angelides makes Gray Davis look charismatic.
But Angelides was the anointed one by the Dems in power.
We would probably have been better off with Westly.

27. Like I said during the Dem Primary, I only believe that Westly could have
beaten the Governator....Phil Angelides is unfortunately un-inspiring, not very exciting and is very un-photogenic.

Westly came across much better and I think would have appealed to Mod-Republicans who can't stand Ahnuld.

Meanwhile, with the new legislation for emissions and meeting the Kyoto Protocol that Ahnuld signed, he will win, even if its just squeeking by.
