BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR ...
Edited on Sun Sep-03-06 08:53 PM by NanceGreggs
Be Careful What You Wish For …
By Nancy Greggs

Hey, fellow voters, have you ever wished for the following:

I WISH my government would lie my country into a war, and then continue to lie to me about how that war is going.

I WISH my employer got a big tax break for outsourcing my job.

I WISH my elected representatives would just throw the Constitution in the garbage, and let the president get away with breaking the law.

I WISH my elected representatives would totally ignore what’s right for me, and just do what is right for themselves.

I WISH my elected representatives would give more tax breaks to the wealthy, and put my children on the hook for paying off an escalating national debt.

I WISH my tax dollars would just ‘go missing’ without any explanation as to where they wound up.

I WISH the CEO of the corporation that employs me could increase his own salary and benefits a thousand percent, while he cuts my salary and my benefits.

I WISH the troops would have to spend even longer periods in combat, so my elected officials would have more time to gut their pensions and benefits while they’re gone.

I WISH the troops in Iraq and Afghanistan could be under-equipped and under-fed, so Halliburton could make an even bigger profit.

I WISH the corporations in my country would just ignore environmental concerns altogether if they interfere with bottom-line profits.

I WISH the Christian leaders in my nation would just forget about the teachings of Christ, and preach hatred and intolerance instead.

I WISH this administration would make up more implausible stories about terrorism, so that more of my fellow citizens can be scared about nothing.

I WISH the mainstream media would broadcast more misinformation and pass it off as fact.

I WISH the government would give more tax subsidies to the oil companies that are already gouging me at the pump.

I WISH the government would support a prescription drug plan that would put billions of dollars into the pockets of pharmaceutical companies, while American citizens who can’t afford them die.

I WISH the administration would spend billions of taxpayer dollars on a no-win war, while our own country’s infrastructure rots.

I WISH my country had a president who could embarrass all Americans with his abject stupidity and inappropriate behavior every time he appears in public.

I WISH the government would spy on me, listen in on my phone calls, and vet my email instead of wasting their time inspecting cargo and securing the border.

I WISH the rich could be a LOT richer, and the poor could be a LOT poorer.

I WISH we could lose at least one major American city to natural disaster, and blame the whole thing on its victims.

I WISH I could vote secure in the knowledge that my vote probably won’t be counted.

I WISH there was more violent crime in my neighborhood, and there were less cops on the streets.

I WISH my country had more enemies and less allies the world over.

I WISH governmental agencies like FEMA, DHS, and the FDA were run by inexperienced, inept White House appointees instead of people who knew what they were doing.

I WISH the economy was teetering on the brink of disaster.

I WISH the president had taken the goodwill of the world after 9/11 and turned it into global enmity.

I WISH all Americans were divided instead of united.

I WISH more Americans were living below the poverty line, were unemployed, were homeless, and were without medical insurance.

I WISH the war profiteers, especially those who are family members of the administration, could realize even bigger financial returns on the deaths of American soldiers.

I WISH more politicians would take bribes, and sell out their constituents for basketball tickets and golfing trips.

I WISH more politicians would spend their time debating flag-burning and gay marriage instead of addressing the real concerns the country is facing.

I WISH the people in the administration who are overseeing current military strategy were all draft-dodgers.

I WISH the War on Christmas would finally get the attention it deserves.

I WISH my country incited more terrorists, inflamed more hatred, tortured more people, killed more children, destroyed more countries, ignored common sense on a more regular basis, and propelled itself into self-destruction at a much faster pace.

If you voted Republican in the last election, CONGRATULATIONS!

YOU GOT EVERYTHING YOU WISHED FOR!

4. I just bought a ream of printer paper - can I print this for distribution
in/on every shopping cart, billboard, phone booth & blank wall I come across? And if permissible, would you want your name credited or would you want to skip the extra-special attention from HS & Agent Mike?!

You have got the touch! Just BAM! Nails it down in a way that even the biggest repub will just wilt & cry!

Rec'd, rec'd, rec'd!

6. WOW! Thanks for that, djmaddox1!
Please feel free to distribute this wherever you feel it might cause someone TO THINK BEFORE THEY VOTE AGAIN!

And yes, please include my name. Our governmental agencies are already over-extended tracking down phantom enemies -- don't want to make them work too hard finding my real name.

NanceGreggs, PROUD F*CKIN' PATRIOT!!!

15. TY, Nance - printer is in 'overdrive' w/your name up top!
I think it WILL make some people think harder before they vote - that's why it's so wonderful! Easy to digest, concise, logic-enriched mental bites ... they don't even have to 'chew' it - it'll go straight to the proper synapses before they know they've heard some truths that they probably have tried to avoid!

What I really want to see is you working w/for the party for the mid-terms (& 08!) - they could use your talent for speaking to the average citizen! They don't seem to have that ability to lay it out for people to 'get it' like your writing does. We 'lurves' ya here, but I would love to see a wider audience exposure as well!

Keep 'em coming, Nance - we have work to do!

16. That I will do, but my email list will be preaching to the choir! LOL
I'm printing these up to aim at those in my area that aren't very, um ... politically aware. It's a very red part of CALIF, & sometimes people have to have a cheat sheet in front of them in black & white before they can add 2+2 & get the correct answer! So I'll do both, email & print/post! Car is too old to drive voters to vote, too broke to donate to the candidates much, & darn it! too old to freeway blog - so I try to do my part by poking away w/printouts & voter registrations. It is writing like Nance's & others on DU that make it so much easier to catch an eye, & hopefully turn a vote along the way!

Still wish I could hang off an overpass once in my life, though! Maybe ... one of these days, as long as I don't have to outrun anyone getting away!

Hopefully we will meet up some day, and do some freeway blogging together -- we can take turns holding each other by the ankles as we dangle off a bridge somewhere!

From all of us, THANKS for everything you do!

... to pass this along to all and sundry.

The writing IS actually effortless -- not because I'm all that good at it, but because this Administration gives me so much raw material to work with.

14. ...and my family sees nothing wrong with any of the above.
because a Republican is doing it BUT if Clinton had committed any one of those offenses, they would have called for his removal.

I've tried everything I can to get them to see what is wrong, but they are brainwashed by the churches, Every Sunday, back they go for more brainwashing about Bush being God's man.

31. All they are interested in is the Rapture
They really believe that Jesus is around Alpha Centauri right now. He's at the Howard Johnson's having a clam roll. As soon as he finishes his scoop of peppermint stick ice cream, JC and his Sonshine Band are gonna get in the Ford Explorer and drive to Earth where they will rapture all the rich white Republican Christians. They don't care about their debts, they don't care about going to college to get educated, they are totally convinced that Jesus will show up next week to take them away.

What is even sadder is that the harder times get for them, the deeper they get into bible studies. There is nothing I can do to wake them up.

p.s. Just for accuracy, Rumsfeld wasn't a draft dodger. Naval aviator back in the day.

20. I wish this was read on
all network news shows. We already know Republicans either can't or don't read and rely on Pox (deliberate typo) News or Rusty Limpballs for their daily dose of willfull ignorance. Let's face it, thinking is hard work and believing in fairy tales is for those suffering from arrested development or very young children.
In some ways I agree with Neitzsche. The Republican cultists and weak minded fools vote against their best interests because of fear.
A grand slam for Nancy this weekend.

22. Don't hesitate to pass this one on!
My spouse has this clueless right-wing fundamentalist relative who is constantly barraging her with e-mail propaganda, hoping that she'll "convert to the cause". So far she's been reluctant to retort with anything that might counter the stupidity, ignorance, and outright bigotry of those messages. I'm going to circulate this message far and wide, and I'm hoping to persuade my wife to do the same. Time to fight fire with fire -- a lot of these people are so sheltered in their choice of media info and personal contacts that they never experience a contrary opinion. There's a lot of food for thought here, and this year's "fence sitters" might just experience a moment of illumination.

26. I'm Linking to This On My Blog
My readers at Another Goddamned Liberal need to read this, today.

And while I would never add one thing to your terrific piece (you're quite a writer!), I personally would add:

I wish that my government would fight terrorism by stealing my rights as an American citizen and treating me like a common criminal every time I am in an airport.

Good on you, Nance.
