WP: Schwarzenegger Keeps Wide Lead (45 to 32%) over Angelides
Schwarzenegger Keeps Wide Lead
By John Pomfret
Washington Post Staff Writer
Monday, September 4, 2006; Page A04

SAN LUIS OBISBO, Calif. -- Republican Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and state Democratic leaders just concluded the legislative session with something that has been in short supply in California politics lately: cooperation and bipartisan harmony.

In the process, Schwarzenegger found himself looking a bit like a Democrat. He backed a plan from the Democratic mayor of Los Angeles for a takeover of the city's underperforming schools and signed on to an agreement to limit greenhouse gas emissions. After a series of political missteps by Schwarzenegger, even his critics say his new stances and alliances have helped him regain his footing.

The result has been a difficult time for state Treasurer Phil Angelides, Schwarzenegger's Democratic challenger in November.

Democratic Party bigwigs and Hollywood moguls appear to be wavering in their support....Leading California Democrats -- including Senate President Pro Tem Don Perata and Assembly Speaker Fabian Nuñez, the co-chairman of Angelides's reelection campaign -- have crisscrossed the state with Schwarzenegger campaigning for a multibillion-dollar bond package to rebuild California's sagging roads, schools and water systems that will also be on the November ballot....

***

Among the Democratic faithful, Angelides is having a hard time gaining traction. A poll from the Public Policy Institute of California released Wednesday put Schwarzenegger 13 percentage points ahead of his challenger among likely voters -- 45 to 32 percent -- the same as a month ago....

2. The Only Way He Can Win Is To Run Left
As he has been doing the last couple of weeks, but you can bet it's a ploy, this Californian is NOT fooled. We really need to bring out his Bush ties....

The only way a GOP can win in CA is to act like a Dem at election time!

9. I'm surprised he isn't farther ahead
The only people really angry at Arnie are the conservatives.

6. the MSM is giving Angelides little coverage, and I've seen no ads...
although I don't watch much TV, and don't have cable. Still, you'd think he'd be running a more aggressive campaign, and you'd think the Dems in the legislature wouldn't be so eager to cooperate with Arnold...

7. I saw some Angelides ads showing the chump licking the chimp...
Der Gropinator stumping for the war-chimp big time during the 2004 campaign.

I thought they were great!

Arnold will win, becuse the planet is going thru one of those really phucked-up phases.

Once things bottom out, we can begin the re-hab.

Oil your tools.

10. Once again the Dems picked a weak Candidate with
no charisma. The Gropinator is a Rethug with liberal social concepts thus he still has star power. Had he not been so arrogant and picked fights with Nurses, teachers and CA Unions he would have had higher ratings. His approval ratings were in the low 30s a while back but many CA voters are gullible and fickle.

11. It wouldn't matter who we picked
There are too many brain dead pod people in this state who think it's cool to have the Terminator as their governor. Sad to say, it really is as simple as that.

12. Arnold's not a dumb politician
Unlike Bush, he knows to some extent when you actually have to change course. He knows he couldn't have opposed Dems on these issues he agreed to recently...It's not like they were victories for him...

The only way for repukes to win is by being less repuke like.
