electronic voting corporations that are now counting all our votes with TRADE SECRET, PROPRIETARY programming code, and virtually no audit/recount controls. Dodd colluded with the two biggest crooks in the Anthrax Congress, Tom Delay and Bob Ney (now indicted or resigned in bribery scandals), to fast-track this election theft technology with a $4 billion boondoggle (the so-called "Help America Vote Act" of 2002) that corrupted and destroyed our election system from one end of the country to the other.
If he would just undo that, he could possibly save his soul--instead of grand-standing about Bolton, who, if we still had transparent, verifiable elections, would not have been appointed, and might instead be at Hague, on trial for war crimes, instead of at the UN, scheming to commit more mass murder.
Dodd is running for president, launched from the Al Franken Show last week (by a substitute host), on the same day that Mike Malloy was axed. I couldn't help but notice the bitter irony. The substitute host was one of these "pee all over the great man's shoes in happiness to be in the presence of His Greatness" type of talk show hosts. Didn't catch his name. He reminded me of Al, in the way he schmoozed with Dodd (who was on vacation in Ireland) about their cutesy Irishness. Dodd said that Hillary is "in trouble with anti-war crowd," and that we don't want people who have "lost" (Kerry, Gore)--and, by process of elimination, that leaves him. He is now "exploring" a run for president. And what better land to explore than AAR, which just fired its best, most hard-hitting leftist (majorityist) commentator--the sort of commentator who, if he had Christopher Dodd on the phone, would have asked him about the "Help America Vote Act," his connections to big Bushite electronic voting firms, his attendance at Bilderberg meetings, and his votes for mass murder in Iraq.
"In trouble with the anti-war crowd." Ah, me. It almost makes me like Hillary. And here's a weird fact for you. ONLY TWO Democratic Senators voted "No" on HAVA. And they are: Hillary Clinton and Charles Schumer. Go figure. It doesn't gel with their other votes, but there you are. And there is nothing worse than the "Help America Vote Act." Nothing. That piece of crap legislation WAS the fascist coup. It is WHY we are unable to change things. It was, in effect, the END of our right to vote, and thus, damn near the END of our democracy.
Here are the beneficiaries of Christopher Dodd's pet legislation, HAVA:
DIEBOLD: Until recently, headed by Wally O'Dell, a Bush-Cheney campaign chair and major fundraiser (a Bush "Pioneer," right up there with Ken Lay), who promised in writing to "deliver Ohio's electoral votes to Bush-Cheney in 2004"; and
ES&S: A spinoff of Diebold (similar computer architecture), initially funded by rightwing billionaire Howard Ahmanson, who also gave one million dollars to the extremist 'christian' Chalcedon Foundation which touts the death penalty for homosexuals (among other things). Diebold and ES&S have an incestuous relationship; they are run by two brothers, Bob and Todd Urosevich.
These are the people who "counted" 80% of the nation's votes in 2004, under a veil of corporate secrecy--as the result of legislation that Christopher Dodd helped to engineer.
The third major election theft player, Sequoia, employs Republican former Calif Sec of State Bill Jones, and his chief aide Alfie Charles, to peddle their machines--in an outstanding example of the highly corrupt practice of "revolving door employment." They sell this shitty technology to the state--and set up the rules that permit, say, TRADE SECRET, PROPRIETARY vote counting--then go to work for the industry.
HAVA not only promoted (nay, FORCED) the corporate privatization of voting counting, with TRADE SECRET, PROPRIETARY programming code--code so secret that not even our secretaries of state are permitted to review it--they MADE SURE that we couldn't even get recounts, by failing to require even the most minimal paper trail (let alone a real paper ballot backup) in electronic voting. ONE THIRD of the country voted in un-recountable, un-auditable voting systems in 2004. No recount POSSIBLE! In the rest, audit procedures are non-existent (no audit required) or are extremely inadequate for this high speed environment. The result is that we had a non-transparent, unverifiable election in 2004; part of one in 2002 (certain states like Georgia, went all-electronic--no paper trail--early; Georgia is where Democrat Max Cleland had a 15% lead going into the '02 Senate election, and somehow, mysteriously, lost), and we WILL HAVE non-transparent, unverifiable elections this November, and forevermore, if we don't find the way to change this NOW.*
Our right to vote is GONE. GONE! Sold to the highest bidder--and one of the chief auctioneers was Christopher Dodd!

It is just outrageous that a corrupt son of a bitch like Christopher Dodd can set all this up, and then can proceed with a "run" for president in the confidence that he will get Diebolded into office as his reward. The Corporate Rulers' stealth candidate. At least Bush is out there. You can see what he is. You can even see through Hillary and John Kerry and the rest--half good people whose burning ambition often rises up and overwhelms their better natures. But this slimy worm Dodd is not seeable. He has been lurking in the cave of horrors--the place where democracy, and good government, and fairness and equity and justice and truthfulness get ridiculed and ritually slain.
DUers, beware. Bolton is not the issue here. Diebold is.

Corporatists among the Democrats and groups like Common Cause will tell you that optiscans are okay because they have a paper ballot. It's NOT true! That paper ballot is nearly worthless in a system with no audits or minimal audits, and in which recounts almost never occur (and even those are inadequate). Optiscans are part of the corporate scam. BOYCOTT them all!
