Clark Supporters: Keep Fighting!
I received an email from a fellow Clark supporter this morning. It was short and said this:

"Clark believes it is his duty to become President, Kerry believes it his due to become president".

That statement hits the nail on the head for me and it's one of the reasons why I will hang in there with Clark. I donated, mailed 100 letters yesterday, made calls and plan on making LOTS of calls over the weekend with my free minutes.

Clark must win Tennessee AND Virginia, and we've got to help him do it.

Not these fair-weather supporters contemplating jumping to campaigns like Dean's. (shakes head)

8. That sentiment is pretty accurate.

In a way, John Kerry has kind of become this year's Bob Dole. I always thought that the Republicans put Dole up against Clinton because he "deserved" the shot at the presidency because of his experience and contributions to the party.

In a way, we might be doing the same thing with Kerry. He's the only major candidate left (apologies to JKucinich) with a lot of national political experience, and I think we tend to discount the importance of that in voters' minds.

As many have said, Clark obviously is running for president because he wants to help fix what Bush has screwed up. Why else would he leave the private sector where he was making $1 million a year in speaking fees??!?

10. Exactly
We must not think like most voters. They'll willingly vote for a good ol' boy who's spent 20 years stagnant in the Senate than someone who may cause real change.

9. Clark does not have to win Virginia
Clark needs to either win TN convincingly, or win TN narrowly and have a strong second place (or statistical tie as they like to say) finish in Virginia. Expectations are lowest for Clark of the three top candidates. That plays to his advantage on Tuesday. After a narrow win in Oklahoma, a solid win in TN would give him momentum and a fresh round of media attention to him.

While Edwards benefited by all the glowing coverage of him following his second place finish in Iowa, and fourth place finish in New Hampshire, that raised expectations for him to keep surging. I've noticed that Edwards is not quite as hot a story this week as he was last, while Clark has gained a small amount of coverage. Clark is well positioned to get a solid bounce out of one solid win, since he still is seen as a darker horse than Edwards in the media. Edwards already got his solid win, where does he go from there. HE may be the one who needs to sweep Tuesday to keep momentum alive.

14. I don't know
Edited on Fri Feb-06-04 01:04 PM by Jim4Wes
I think with the speed of this process and the ever expanding number of states to campaign in, that either Clark or Edwards needs to have a clear win over the other. That means one strong win, one plus a strong second to Kerry. Or winning both outright.

The problem with your scenario is kerry needs to be slowed down post haste. This is the last week he can be given a free ride in so many states.

15. I want to KILL the Clark campaign
One of my biggest gripes (I have 2*) with the Clark campaign has been their horrendous job at setting expectations. Personally, Clark's done about exactly as I'd have expected him to do, and so I'm thrilled with where we stand -- one step away from being the prime contender for the nomination.

In my opinion, all Clark should be shooting for is besting Edwards in BOTH Tennessee and Virginia, whether he wins either or not. If he doesn't do better than Edwards in both, then he needs to win the one in which he places above Edwards, and *Kerry* needs to win the other.
All good scenarios, IMO, and one's that should result in Clark staying in the race (and Edwards leaving):

TN - Clark win
VA - Clark win
(Best case!, catapulting to frontrunner :))

TN - Clark win
VA - Clark beats Edwards
(or vice versa, VA<=>TN)

TN - Kerry win, Clark beats Edwards
VA - Kerry win, Clark beats Edwards

Bad scenarios...

TN - Edwards beats Clark
VA - Edwards beats Clark

TN - Clark beats Edwards
VA - Edwards beats Clark
(or vice versa, VA<=>TN; bad because it's indecisive,
and money is too dang tight for non-results!)

The campaign needs to do a better dang job of setting expectations..!

* Other gripe is that the campaign has done a poor job of handling the media. It's not all Wes' job. If we have a press secretary or PR person, it would sure surprise me.

31. I Agree
I think Clark's campaign has not made the most of the great candidate he truly is.

They have not used media effectively, wrong expectations, etc.

But I'm with Wes till the end, whether it's the White House, or Arkansas.

He is the best hope for this country.

17. Keep those calls coming
Just a thought, I heard on the news that there are places in TN that are having severe flooding, might be a good idea to start your conversation asking if their families are safe and if they have time for the phone call. What di you think?

By the way a poll just on CNN has Clark in 2nd in WI

In my book, Clark is the standard-bearer of sanity and leadership we need at this point.

30. I'm with Clark
either to the bitter end, or to the sweet victory, whichever it is. It's about loyalty and principles and about not allowing myself to be dictated to by the RW corporate media.

He's the only candidate out there that I feel any enthusiasm for, and the only candidate that I've ever been enthusiastic about since Gary Hart back in '84.

Even if he doesn't get the nomination, I still want him out there calling out the Bush administration for as long as possible.

34. I wrote letters into TN today.
I have to say, it was a most painful experience. I wrote about his dedication to the men and women in uniform and the fact that he's not gonna use them for political gain. I wrote about the fact that our people deserve to be treated with the respect due them for serving our nation--that our VAs deserve full funding.

I sat and wept as I wrote it, contemplating how badly used our troops are now.

I don't think I realized before today how deeply personal this decision is and how much of a raw nerve this invasion of Iraq has been for me. I protested, and I wrote letters and emails--but up to now, I've felt almost powerless about the pain and death enacted in our names. A lot of my decision to support the General is based on the fact that I see him as a man of integrity and as someone who will do the right thing for our troops.

Yeah, I'm with the General. I'll follow him all the way to White house.

Laura

37. How can I do anything less?
I look at the pain and tears that our military and their families endure, and I wonder how anyone can do anything BUT work for a candidate that will respect all that they have given up for us...

Gen Clark is a good man who has given his life to service to this country. He deserves our best.
