3. USA Today this morning:
"A Badger Poll published Thursday is the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel and The Capital Times in Madison, Wis., shows what an uphill battle Dean faces in the state. Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry led Dean 45%-12%. Former Army General Wesley Clark had 11%. Sen. John Edwards of North Carolina had 6%. The survey of 175 likely Democratic voters had a margin of error of +/-4%"

No link, it's probably been published in one of those papers, but it's in USA Today..the article called "Deans says Wis. defeat would push him out".

But that sample size sounds very small--only 175 people so I don't know how accurate that could be..

5. Never take Dean for granted.
Wisconsin has true progressive history, and Dean will win in Wisconsin. Not Kerry. Not Edwards. Not Clark.

As a result of Dean's stand in Wisconsin, both Edwards and Clark will drop out due to lack of funds.

I like Clark, don't get me wrong.

8. and I guess because of that progressive history,

9. I'm not taking Dean for granted
I'm just pointing out how much work he has in front of him. He would not pick Wisconsin if he did not think he had a chance, but he is going to have to turn his numbers around.

10. But Dean's not a progressive, and never has been one
Dean's house of cards is coming down around him. His "progressive" supporters are abandoning him, as he's not nearly as "electable" as he seemed a couple of months ago.

Dean has lived and died by the media. He has let them define him as something he's not, all the while reaping the benefits of their definition. Now that the Trippi-created "mistique" is wearing off, people are seeing him for what he really is: just another "establishment" Democrat with a mediocre record who just so happened to be in the right place at the right time.

7. I have a friend with the Dean campaign in Wisconsin
and internal tracking polls for the campaign indicates a much closer race with Kerry leading but Dean within 8-10 points of him and a large percentage of undecideds--over 20%. Also that Dean's support is much more solid--definitely voting for Dean is in the high 70's and definitely voting for Kerry in high 50's.

We will just have to see what happens on 2/17.
