October Surprise that will bring chaos to the Nov elections.
Remember Rove has to change the focus of the elections or spend the
next two years answering questions before Congress.

Remember Rove believes that "in your face politics" and chaos is
his best friend.

This is what I believe will play out:
In the next week or two Rummy will resign.

His replacement will then promise to present a report to
the American people in 10 days of the status of the war and
a plan to win.

This plan will be presented on September 29Th and proclaim
that in order to continue our present course a "DRAFT of
1.25 million troops will be needed and selected by lottery".

This will of course completely redefine politics for the next two
years. Beyond that Rove could care less.

4. We always underestimate Rove, This will change the debate
from, should we be in Iraq, to how we stay in Iraq. It will force every voter and candidate to declare their position. CT on a national scale.

12. it would sure as hell change it. but not in the Rs favor.
the only way that would possibly work would be if Rummy's replacement was Joe Lieberman and then bush fired him the minute after he proposed it and blamed the whole thing on the Democrats. Even then, it's a longshot! :D

is no anti-war movement but a "we are doing it wrong movement" in the country. (DU excluded).

5. Rummy will never resign and they will once again use Osama
to influence the elections.

Rumsfeld is a key player in the PNAC, even more important than bu$h. bu$h would resign before Rumsfeld. His role in the regime is that of co leader with Cheney.

As for the October surprise, they will still rely on Osama to scare the voters into staying the course and keeping the quarter back in the middle of the game bull shit.

Think of this forum and then thing of every household debating should there be a draft or not and nothing else from Oct 1 to Nov 7.

11. With Marines going back for a 4th tour and NATO getting their
butts kicked in Afghanistan, what army is left to go after Iran. If we bomb they will send 200,000 troops into Iraq and wipe us out.

14. Don't underestimate the stoopidity of this administration......
They are already talking about "targeted" bombing of Iran.

Like you said.....to a great degree we are getting our butts kicked. Now, why would that be? and why couldn't it keep on happening?

Personally I think that they won't actual "do" Iran.....just act like it long enough to attempt to get Dems to do something they'll be sorry for later on....like what happened with Iraq.

And that thought is scary as hell. I fully believe BushCo would order a nuclear strike in a heartbeat. Even if they can't pronounce it (nookyalar). What good are toys if you can't play with them?

24. Incredulous that an attack on Iran would boost the Repugs' standings,
isn't it? What in the world is this world coming to. Wish I could weep but I'm all cried out. I despise these cretins. There, I feel a bit better.

13. Should the regime call for a draft at this point, repukes would be wiped
out in the election, and calls for impeachment would resound.

It would be political suicide, and I hope they do it.

16. I don't think so. Repubs will plead for 2 yrs to fix the problem and
Dem's and Ind's will split into 3 factions. People will also give them credit for facing up to problem and * will play the mea culpa role to the hilt. Again, all I see is problems about the way the war is going, no one questions the war itself.

18. Even the fundie-bush-bots won't offer up their children to king george
its all well and fine when others pay the consequences, but, as with their feeble leader, none of them want to face consequences in their own lives.

Now bush wants your kids.

Assuming Dems would have the guts to play that card, the pukes would be OUT, big time.

19. I think you missed the point, Rove will make the proposal, the
outcome of the proposal doesn't matter to Rove. The change of debate is the objective. Rove will make the election about the Draft.

20. Oil prices could be a factor
Prices have been plummeting over the past month. I want them to plummet, but not in a way that gives voters a false sense of security. Because, politically-manipulated or not, oil prices will still climb again after November and December.

I think there will be another terror plot uncovered and maybe another Osama tape. I think they will also manufacture an intense fire-fight in Afghanistan and say Osama is cornered. Gas will be around $2. Christ, we could LOSE seats in Congress.

23. Everyone knows that the Draft is the issue. Fighting over the
details is the only question. Either we declare victory and leave, or send in 350,000 troops to lock the place down. Running away from the issue is why we lose elections.

Rummy resigning in next two weeks: very doubtful but not impossible
Report on status of war and plan to win by Sept 29: not going to happen; in fact if Rummy resigns, I doubt that the Senate will have confirmed his replacement by Sept 29
Proposal for Draft: not going to happen. period. end of discussion

28. Shields and Rep John Murta made the same statement in the past
week. I feel I'm in good company and any good campaign manger should be prepared for this type of situation.

Quote from Rep Murta in a piece now up on www.huffingtonpost.com:

"Two years ago, I was one of only two in the House of Representatives who voted for a draft, because I believe if we are a country truly at war, the burden should be shared proportionately and fairly. So Mr. President, you have two options, either change the course in Iraq and reduce the burden on our overstretched active force or reinstitute the draft. We cannot sustain the current course."

33. False dichotomy.
Proposing a draft wouldn't save them one bit.

The rest of your predictions I could buy, though. A new SoD could almost run in opposition to the "incumbent" -- "Now I've got it under control, I've got a plan, give me a chance to implement it by keeping Republicans in control of Congress," etc...

31. That's a complete loser
60% of the American people think the War in Iraq was a mistake. There is no way that those people would allow their children to be drafted for a war they think was a mistake.

I kind of hope Rove does this. It will kill the Republican Party for a generation or so.
