(my response)
Dear Prime Minister Harper:
While I support the troops, I do not agree with Canada's military role in Afghanistan. I urge you to end Canada's combat mission, and work with our allies and the Afghan government to establish a comprehensive peace process for the country.
I am 55 years old, my father served in WW2 and I am forever grateful that he survived (he is still alive today).
My father engaged to protect countries that were being attacked. NOT to further pre-emptive strikes.
Afghanistan did not attack anyone - they have been on the defensive for decades.
I have always been proud of our country for being regarded as Peacekeepers, not aggressive invaders.
Once we went into a combat mode, supporting the USA's unprovoked attack on Afghanistan,
We lost that distinction,
AND
WE are inviting the wrath of those that the USA has attacked and invaded.
The longer we participate in Bush's wars -
The more danger we bring to our Military, and our citizens.
Please eliminate this danger to every soul in our country,
And if bringing the troops home is out of the question -
Let's go back(forward really) to our traditional peacekeeping role.
I want to remain proud of my country.
Thank you.
