OMFG. Some people are just shithouse-rat nuts: From CNN.com
Still, some Southern women remain stalwart supporters of the president and the Republican Party. At a watermelon festival in Chickamauga, in the mountains of northwest Georgia, substitute teacher Clydeen Tomanio said she remains committed to the party she's called home for 43 years.

"There are some people, and I'm one of them, that believe George Bush was placed where he is by the Lord," Tomanio said. "I don't care how he governs, I will support him. I'm a Republican through and through."

8. "I don't care how he governs"...
perhaps the most frightening statement that a voting citizen of a democracy can make.

Although overwhelmed by the part of me that adheres strongly to democratic and civil-rights values, there's a little part of me that wishes we could just suspend the vote for anyone who thinks like this -- or, more accurately, doesn't think at all.

9. What's so different about saying this:
"There are some people, and I'm one of them, that believe George Bush was placed where he is by the Lord," Tomanio said. "I don't care how he governs, I will support him. I'm a Republican through and through."

And saying you'll vote for anyone with a "D" behind their name, even if they are a DINO who votes with the Repubs anyway? Think about it.

13. The main difference?
Edited on Thu Sep-07-06 12:50 PM by SteppingRazor
I've yet to meet a Democratic fascist. The difference between George Bush and Dick Cheney and, say, Hillary Clinton and Joe Lieberman is freaking light years. And besides, there's definitely a difference between "I vote for Democrats, period." and "I vote for Democrats no matter how they govern (i.e. even if they torture prisoners and lead us into unncessary wars)"

19. Partisanship is partisanship
You should vote for the candidate best qualified. If you are disgusted with your options, then don't vote.

in this race, a dem with zero experience in political office is vastly preferable to a seasoned, "qualified" republican congressman. the house MUST be taken back.

not voting is not an option. there is rarely a choice other than that between a shit sandwich & a giant douche, to paraphrase South Park.

2 words make the ends justify the means: Subpoena Power.

24. In the 90's, how many Dems claimed Clinton was placed in office by God?
There is a huge difference between holding your nose and voting for someone because they are the lesser of two evils and blindly believing that someone can do no wrong because they are a messenger from God.

34. Seriously?
Okay, serious answer:

Since you talk about "voting with" you must mean Congress (i.e. not the Presidency). Considering anyone with a D behind their name WILL vote for a "D" as majority leader, if for no other reason, you vote for the "DINO" because D control of whichever House is better than R control of that House. If the individual is truly out of step with the party, their influence on the agenda and policy will be relatively minor, but that one vote could be the one that wins the majority control and thus the ability of the party to control the agenda.

In contrast, this woman is talking about the PRESIDENCY - an office that wields enormous power, where the extremism or general lunacy of the individual will be able to play itself out with relatively little to keep it in check.

Does that clarify it?

31. This is why rock-bottom in the polls is roughly 30%
30% are just too stupid.

Look on the bright side.... Bush may never loose that bottom 30%, but that doesn't make the 31st percentile any more likely to change thier minds again. Once you lose a 31st percentile person, he's never coming back.

Ok, so if Bush starts sacrificing fetuses on an altar to Satan on the White House lawn, she'll still support him?

That's a ridiculous statement. There is no hope for people like this.
