Do not watch the Texas vs Ohio State game
I was really looking forward to it but I am going to use the time to do something productive while boycotting ABC.

4. Ah ...... no
Sorry but I love college football and live in Columbus, OH.

Drive! Drive on down the field;
Men of the scarlet and gray;
Don't let them thru that line,
We've got to win this game today,
Come on, Ohio!
Smash thru to victory,
We'll cheer you as you go;
Our honor defend
So we'll fight to the end
For Ohio.

Fire it up Bucks

5. You must understand
Not watching ABC does nothing unless you are a part of the ratings system (Nielsen.)

What will be accomplished besides you missing a big football game? By the way, if you really want to miss the game on ABC they are on just about every city on radio. Columbus it is WBNS 97.1 FM or The Fan on WBNS-AM.

If you really want to make a statement write the sales managers of the TV stations explaining to them that you will be contacting each of their advertisers explaining that you willl never patronize or use their services again.

Patio Enclosures in Cleveland is a local advertiser that I have already contacted. They buy a lot of ABC here.

Edited on Sat Sep-09-06 08:46 AM by Gman
every television and every station, all 999 of them on cable, here in Texas will automatically be carrying the game.

---------on edit---------------

I better add this: :sarcasm:

7. "You must understand"
No I don't have to understand. :(

If the "bread and circuses" of sports shows are so important that you can't find an alternative to ABC or choose to not view ... well, it's cool but that's not part of my priorities.

We are inching toward fascism and all the TV distractions only lulls the USA Populace into complacency.

I love College Football and follow three teams, but this is our Democratic Republic ... please consider, where you can NOT behaving like a "Kill-joy" but actually being part of "The Team" to counter One Party Rule of our Government?

9. A more effective action
We can all be on the same "team" while using different tactics. Maseman is simply telling you is that it would be more effective to contact the advertisers. Not watching the show is having no effect on ABC unless you are going to be counted in the ratings.

He has already been proactive in his approach rather than simply not watching. A different approach which he feels is more effective. This is certainly not being a "kill-joy."

14. Again, in this context, the statement is, IMO, inane
I'm talking about boycotting a corporation. It has nothing to do with the functioning of Our Three Branches of Government nor the Democratic Republic type of representation within this country. :shrug:

15. A boycott only does good if you hit them in the wallet
Every local affiliate has sales goals and are accountable for sales budgets. If they have advertisers pull out tehy dont hit their goals and head's roll, people lose jobs. I have bene in radio and TV advertising for over 15 years.

I can guarentee you that if I get a call from my client that he is receiving a number of calls telling him that people are VERY unhappy with my station and they will be tuning out for good as well as never patronizing the business, that I will be going to my managers demanding answers.

When a General Manager of a TV station starts getting heat from both his sales staff and managers he takes that heat up the latter to corporate. Corporate is very careful to take care of their affiliates.

We have to be strategic in making a difference.
