The ads we should run
We should take a page out of Rove's book and run the following ads in every contested House and Senate race.

Ad 1 They said they would protect us

When Bush ran for President in 2000, Dick Cheney said this, cut to clip of him at GOP convention saying that two divisions of the Army would have to say not ready sir when asked to deploy. He was lying then as his own advisors admitted (shot of newspaper article stating that). Since then we have invaded Iraq with disasterous results. Not only do we have whole divisions tied up in Iraq our National Guard is tied up to. Now we have Iran poised to actually get nuclear weapons (pictures of Iranian's holding American hostages and parading in the streets) and we can't do anything about it. They said they would protect us. Why on earth did we believe them?

Ad 2 They said they would protect us part two

After 9/11 Bush said he would protect us. Yet, Osama (one of his many videos) makes more vidoes than J Lo. At Tora Bora we let Osama go. Bush later said he doesn't think about him much at all. (clip of him saying that) The man killed 3000 Americans and Bush doesn't think about him. Some protection. Instead we invaded Iraq because they said Iraq and Al Quieda were connected (cut to clip of Cheney saying that). We know that isn't true (article of Senate Intel committee saying no connection between Sadamm and Osama). Close to 3000 dead soldiers later we are still in Iraq and no WMD, no connection to Osama, and no signs of democracy growing. They said they would protect us. Why on earth did we believe them?

Ad 3 They say they support the troops.

Bush can't be seen without troops. On air craft carriers (Mission Accomplished banner), at Veterans Conventions. He always says he supports the troops (cut to one of the many tapes of him saying that). Yet his record shows otherwise. Bush has cut funding for veterans health care, cut funds veterans benefits, refused to exempt deployed guardsmen from the new bankrupcy code, refuses to deploy a new system to foil rocket propelled grenades, refused to provide armor to his troops, kept on a defense secretary who refused to hand sign casualty letters, kept on the same defense secretary who made fun of the lack of armor in Iraq, and still refuses to fire the man despite the fact he has botched this war. (cut to tapes illustrating all of the above). They say they support the troops. Why on earth should we believe them?

Ad 4 They said they would restore honor and dignity to the White House

Bush said he would change the tone and restore honor and dignity. Instead we got this. (Cut to tapes of Bush flicking off reporters, being petulant with David Gregory in France (the French thing), the birthday thing where he made an ass of himself with Canada's PM, now watch me hit this drive, newspaper account of Cheney saying FU, Bush making fun of a reporters outfit. ) He even made fun of a man who is going blind (cut to tape of him making fun of the reporter with the sun glasses). How honorable, how dignified. They said they would restore honor and dignity. (cut to major league asshole and big time tape). Why on earth did we believe them?

Ad 5 They said the adults were in charge

They said the adults were back. Yet in 2005 we lost New Orleans. People died of dehydration and starvation in a convention center on the river in a flood. One year later parts of New Orleans have no power, no utilities, and no mail service. (tape of all of the above). Adults do their jobs. Adults plan for catastrophies. Adults don't put nincompoops in charge of federal agencies. Adults don't let people go without basics for a year. They said the adults were back. Why on earth did we believe them?

Only after all of those ads should we then lay out our agenda.

1. Bush cut funding for head injuries sustained by our troops...
Edited on Sat Sep-09-06 04:41 PM by IanDB1
and forced troops to send home privately purchased body armor that is superior to the government issued body armor... that our troops don't have enough of, anyway.

Oh, the list goes on and on.

That's why I've donated to Operation Helmet:
http://www.operation-helmet.org/contribute.html

I asked that my donated helmet not go to any troops involved in prisoner detention and interrogation.
