Have you noticed the absolute hostility the right has for dissent?
Edited on Sat Sep-09-06 10:22 PM by TitanicWreck
If we are really in Iraq to protect freedom, the right wingers should be supporting and encoraging all forms of dissent here and abroad, as dissent- the ability to question to goverment- is the cornerstone to any democracy. Yet i have noticed online and on the radio right wingers calling for critics of Bush and the war to be silenced. Right wingers I have encountered wished for my death because I was holding a sign at a peace raley that simple read 'peace". Some advocate arrest, and others, like Micahel Savage call for summary execution. Buy the right wing excells in double standards- in thier Bizzaro world, it's heresy to critisize either Bush, Reagan or Nixon, but they rejoice in attcks on bill Clinton, Jimmy Carter or FDR.
I had an online battle with a right winger who said "dissent is fine- except in wartime, as it gives aid and comnfort to the enemy, and is in itself a form of ideological terrorism".
Thats the mindset of people who want to see us arrested , or even killed for speakling out against this corrupt president, and his policies of perpetual war....

Since the right holds such contempt for dissent, then how do they define the word 'freedom'?

2. Quite Simply, Sir
Freedom to the right is to be able to say whatever they themselves believe and hear no disagreement with what they say.

6. That is what happened to the Dixie Chicks.
What was most disturbing was how so many Country "Artists" attacked them and told them to shut up. In one case Klan Kobb County's very own Travis Tritt called for a boycott!
Many others such as Toby Keith, Reba (I'm a "good Christian") McEntire, Tanya "Drugie" Tucker, Charlie Daniels, Ricky Scaggs, among others called for dissenters against the war and Bush to just "shut up". So what? In their little fascist world there should be no dissent whatsoever. That entire incident put the last nail in the coffin. I came to the conclusion that what ever was left of Country "Music" was just pure shit.

13. Excellent News for You! www.musicrowdemocrats.com
I'm thinking of Xmas presents for my Libertarian and Republican family & friends. I never liked country music much in the first place cause it was always "my daddy's music" in my mind. Then came Alabama and a few others... As soon as it got interesting we got this 9/11 country music stiffling American free speech bs and I just turned the dial.

I especially like the song, "I'm Taking My Country Back"

7. It's not legally war time without that paper
The one that says "Congressional Declaration of War".
I accept no substitutes.
The Tonkin Gulf Resolution, the chimp's force use authorization, and all other such documents aren't worth the paper on which they are written.
Incidentally, the richest people in the nation's opinion that they're not getting richer fast enough is not sufficient cause for a Congressional Declaration of War.

14. This is what I find scary

Some of these people are terrifying. Fortunately, it's not so common in the UK. But I've come across American articles which imply that any criticism of Bush is near-treason, and gives comfort to the enemy; that 'Bush-bashing' is 'unpatriotic' and that everyone should 'come together' in support of the president; and that if anyone votes against Bush or his party, it's equivalent to aiding the insurgents and demanding that the terrorists all come to the USA to blow everyone up.

They praise Democracy in the abstract, but oppose it in practice, especially when it affects their own power.

16. This is why I can never undertsand why people think they won't be the ones
taking their guns away when the time comes. It ain't gonna be the Dems...they wouldn't be able to agree about it. It will be the Conservatives, the ones who hate dissent, and demand loyalty, who will come for your guns.
