Al Gore Says He Hasn't Ruled Out 2nd Run
Former Vice President Al Gore said Sunday he hadn't rule out making a second bid for the White House, though he said it was unlikely.

Gore spoke to reporters in Sydney, where he was promoting the local premiere of his documentary on global warming.

"I haven't completely ruled out running for president again in the future but I don't expect to," Gore said before the Sunday night premiere of "An Inconvenient Truth."

"I offer the explanation not as an effort to be coy or clever. It's just the internal shifting of gears after being in politics almost 30 years. I hate to grind the gears," he added.

1. Take your time, Al
No need to let the swiftboating start anytime soon.

But when the time comes, we're waiting for you:

7. It's actually a little different than what I'd been hearing....
Edited on Sun Sep-10-06 11:01 AM by Lisa0825
Everytime he was asked for the past year, I heard him say something along the lines of "I have no plans to run," or "I can't think of a scenario in which I would run." Both vague statements with plenty of outs, but both leaning on the negative side.

This statement is news to me... it's a shift toward the slightly positive side... he's admitting he is considering it!

20. I have interpreted it that way, but
have not heard him come right out and say it before this. I met him in person at the Progressive Forum in Houston a couple months back, and I said I still considered him my President, and look forward to him running in 08. He said, "I do not have any plans to run for president." I said, "I know, but we'll change your mind." He laughed, but he wouldn't say more about it.

I have heard/read him say many forms of "I have no plans" or "I do not intend to," or "I do not see myself," but I never heard him follow it up with any form of "that could change," or "I wouldn't rule it out." Maybe you heard/read some statements I didn't, so I am not saying you are wrong by any means, just that I didn't hear them. So to me, this statement is a step in the right direction:-)

Not the one the lame timid unimaginative DLCish
'professional' campaign managers foisted upon us.

17. Last night I was watching the "Yes, Minister" where Hacker became PM
(For folks who don't know "Yes, Minster" and "Yes, Prime Minister", they are two parts of a highly acclaimed British comedy series about a "typical" politician who rises from a minor minister to Prime Minister, and his running battles with "the real opposition", the British Civil Service.)

The second half of the episode was all about how Hacker overcame the two previously declared (frontrunning) candidates to become PM. He wanted to campaign aggressively, but was advised instead to proclaim he had absolutely no interest in campaigning for the job. The running joke for the second half of the episode was that a character would suddenly realize that Hacker wanted to become PM, and would demand to know whether Hacker was running. Hacker would then deny any interest in becoming PM, and the second character would shout in anger in disgust "My God, you ARE running!!"

15. I'd prefer Gore/Edwards myself
I've read accounts charging your guy as a war criminal for his actions in Bosnia.

Don't know if it's true or not.
But it seems to be leaving an opening for the swiftboaters

No, Edwards is a likeable, electable populist

Much better ticket IMRO

Edited on Mon Sep-11-06 09:48 AM by politicasista
They did it to Gore and Kerry, and they will do it to any Democratic nominee, baggage-free or not. If we don't have a fair media or fair voting in this country, then it won't be an easy ride in 08.

I like the good General too.

War without any U.S. Soldiers dying? Get out of town! :eyes:

I believe that when it comes to calling the General a "war criminal".....it won't be the right that does it...although they might attempt to get the Left to do that for them.

They will attempt "swiftboating" on ANY ONE of our candidates. They can attack Edwards on his channeling an unborn child in his mother's womb for that matter.

The fact is Gore/Clark would certainly be a "Much STRONGER ticket" to combat the GOP's smear machine. Anyone running for PResident on the Dem side will need the VP to be a sooper Dooper "take no Prisoner" attack dog. That's what Clark does well, and what Edwards does not (see election 2004 & Attack Dog-NOT Edwards response to attacks or Cheney/Edwards debate). We need a smooth but tough ass kicking take charge kind of relentless assertive leader, not an optimistic smiling boy-Man!

Remember that Wes Clark is a first class West Point/Oxford Rhodes scholar trained war strategist....and be assured that the next election will be a WAR, not a TRIAL!
