Cheney says they will win in November????
Edited on Sun Sep-10-06 10:13 AM by MissWaverly
Cheney says "They expect to maintain control of both houses" in November, what do you think? Accurate assessment or prelude to another virtual election.
He says that it is absolutely critical to maintain both houses for national security.

1. Usually, the opposite of what DICK says comes true.
So, I'm hoping we'll have significant gains in the House.

But, the Chimp said the same thing a couple of days ago, just like in 2000 and 2004.

Edited on Sun Sep-10-06 10:10 AM by PCIntern
On Election Night 2000, the Networks and everyone else were talking up the Gore victory. Bush Jr., en famille, said that that was not true and that that was not going to happen. Sr. looked real nervous, because he knew that they were up to no good.

He was right...history tends to repeat itself. People ask on DU...What will you do if the elections are stolen? The answer is: America will awaken in the AM...and go to work as usual.

10. You are correct.
This will continue to happen unless and until we can get a courageous prosecutor somewhere to impanel grand juries, subpoena the guilty, indict and convict, and get the media to pay attention.

How come we can get a prosecutor for the odious Tom DeLay, yet no one has stepped forward for the far more evil and widespread deeds of the BFEE? How do they manage to keep such a widespread and insidious conspiracy secret? Why hasn't somebody broken and turned yet?

People, the nation is in serious trouble.

30. You may be right.
I sure hope on the day following the election that we will be seeing and hearing all of the strutting and trash talking about how bad we are and how we are going to win and impeach Bush. I hope we will be seeing it and hearing it because they Democrats won. I am worried about the overconfidence and wish all of that energy would go into actually winning the election.

4. The GOP knows it has advanced an unsustainable strategy in
both foreign and domestic affairs. The polls indicate a sharp plunge in voter approval. They lose the House in November, several governor's chairs, maybe the Senate, and any immediate hopes to become the country's dominant party.

Bush's last two years are not likely to be memorable. I think we're in the James Buchanan zone here.

5. In all seriousness ...

What did you expect him to say?

He's campaigning. He's been equating voting for Democrats with voting for terrorists for some time now, and this is just another part of it. He has always exuded confidence in public and maintained how "critical" it is to keep Republicans in power for "national security" concerns. That's his job, lie about everything and keep everyone afraid.

I believe that the conservatives are distroying everything that is good about America.
I believe that our country will not turn from conservatism until the people of our nation see how
evil they are. The publicans have a record of self-destruction. They are almost there. The Americans almost see them for who they are. Liberals have to take the high gound and be the alternative to the evil people that are in power at the moment.

13. And he should know
After all, it still doesn't matter how the votes in this country are cast anymore, it is a matter of who does the counting, and how those votes are counted.

Quite frankly, I believe that Cheney is right, simply due to the fact that there is too much at stake for Bushco to allow this year's elections to be on the up and up.

quite frankly, the real tin hats are saying that people have talked and that some

done dirt cheap. Anyhoo, they are now talking, so I don't think 2004 will be repeated in

Tim Russert said 50 million has been allocated for ads and 90% will be for negative ads.

20. He started insisting that about the time laptops full of data (voters)
started going missing. The week a laptop with data on most vets and 80% of active duty personnel went missing, Cheney started with his bold insistence the GOP would win in Nov.

Now, please read how the GOP got absentee ballots from a lot of black troops, registered in a predominately DEM district thrown out.

http://www.gregpalast.com/massacre-of-the-buffalo-soldiers

Somehow GOP knew troops were deployed out of country. They sent first class mail to their home addresses in district. They marked envelopes"
DO NOT FORWARD. When they came back, undeliverable (troops deployed, remember) the GOP then took that mail to challenge the absentee ballots, insisting they people were not in the district. The GOP won that little test battle.

Now, think about the laptop that was "stolen" then miraculously returned. Data on almost ALL vets (how many in VA hospitals and not able to check mailboxes at home?) and 80% of active duty (GOP could likely find out from THEIR DOD who is deployed) stolen and a critical election coming.

Also, laptop with data on thousands of NOLA residents went missing not long ago. Hmm, isn't New Orleans the one big DEM stronghold in LA? And aren't a LOT of those folks still unable to get into their homes? Bet THEY can't check mail either.

A lot of data on federal employees also on laptops that sorta got lost. Please consider that department heads are now mostly GOP appointees. Seems likely brass in various agencies would know which employees were away at training sessions, meetings, or field work and when it would be good to send THEM letters that won't get picked up from their mailboxes.

Folks, the GOP is gonna steal this one the old fashioned way: throwing up challenges to voters.

There have been some posts on DU where people got info on THEIR precinct voter rolls and have seen up-wards to 25% of registered voters stricken from rolls, but seems only to happen in areas with high DEM concentration.

Yeah, Cheney is confident. For only 39 cents a voter, he can prevent DEMS from voting just by knowing when they are away and not picking up their mail daily.

Heck of a deal.

22. I, for one, have no confidence
whatsoever that Democrats will make any net gains this November. They are not, as a party, distancing themselves in any significant way from the President. I was at a Second Saturday Democrats breakfast yesterday morning here in Johnson County, Kansas, and our Democratic Congressman (the only one from this state with a D after his name), Dennis Moore, talked about getting three classified briefings prior to the war that convinced him Saddam had WMDs and was STILL not willing to admit he was lied to. Nor to say it out loud.

Here's something else to mull over. A large percentage, probably a majority at this point, do not trust any polls at all, no matter what they say or what the methodology or what the margin of error. They've learned to be particularly suspicious of exit polls, which are, in reality, so accurate that some 30 years ago news organizations had to stop releasing exit poll information before the polls closed. And we've been convinced by any number of anomalous election results starting in November, 2000. Max Cleland's loss in 2002 is just one that should not have been tolerated. In the special election that put Arnold Schwarzenegger into the governorship in California, there were all kinds of weird results around the state. Of course, having so very many candidates on the ballot made that one a lot harder to analyze.

And pretty much everyone here is familiar with at least some of the shenanigans two years ago that "re-elected" Bush. We have a compliant main stream news media, a long tradition of reaching across to each other after election day and behaving with good will towards the winner and supporting that person, and almost no tradition of really standing up to and refusing to accept obviously doctored results.

Keep in mind that in an actual free, fair, and honest election, Al Gore would have won in 2000, and Kerry in 2004 (overlooking, of course, that Gore would have been running for re-election in 04). There have been any number of books and articles written in the past six years about the problems with our elections, and NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE.

As I have said over and over, these people came to power in a coup, and they know that, and they will not give up power easily, least of all to anything so silly and trivial as a free, fair, and honest election. It goes beyond being worried that a house of Congress with a Democratic majority would have subpoena powers that they'd put to use (which I quite frankly doubt in the first place) but that they don't want to give up all the cushy benefits they've accrued for themselves and their cronies. Tax cuts, especially estate tax cuts are their favorite, of course. But the list goes on. They have no use for the public school system in this country, which despite their attempts to portray as completely broken, is pretty good overall, and could be fixed for a tiny fraction of the money that Halliburton wastes every month.

And even if, by some miracle, we take the House this fall, and our Democratic nominee (whoever he or she turns out to be) also wins in November of 2008, we are so deeply into this mess that it's going to be years, perhaps decades before we're out of it. Things will only get worse before they get better.

They won't Diebold all the elections. They only need to tip a handful of close races, just enough to hold the majority.

The fix is in. The real challenge on election day will be to gather robust proof of every illicit practice. Only when that proof is tested and stands will there be any hope for 2008.

41. Rapid litigation.
It has taken a long time to gather evidence of 2004 before litigation can begin. That cycle must be accelerated to stand any chance of a fair election in 2008.

Further, it is imperative that enduring records be established for future reference. That is what Conyers did by publishing his report on the Ohio fiasco.

I agree with your comment re Gore & Kerry. I'd like to think that candidates who get the Diebold treatment this time will not concede until every vote is counted and verified.
Kerry wasn't beaten, he chucked in the towel before the last round of the fight when his opponent feigned a right hook. He promised to count every vote and that still hasn't been done 2 years later.

If there is one thing that could have prevented the world being Bushed for the last 6 years, it is fair elections.
Whatever it takes, elections must again deliver the administration that the voters choose.

we'll pull another 9-11 off. I think they will too. If we take the House, I fully believe they will pull off another 9-11 in order to force it back GOP in 2008. They will say we are pre-occupied with subpoenas for their crimes.

Anyone who thinks they weren't fully complicit in 9-11 just has their head in the sand.

34. Well, they'll get the best election and election money can buy...
These guys have no scruples, control of the media and untold, hidden millions of dollars to spend, not to mention enormous experience engaging in every known form of electoral fraud.

With the media alone, the advantage is unspeakable. All they have to do is distract people's thinking away from all their failues (which vast numbers of people have been astonishingly slow to grasp and/or just don't care about--nevermind how counter-productive it is to them personally).

So, no matter how the polls show us as having an advantage, they just might pull it off (hey, the polls immediately before the 2004 election said Kerry would win by a decent percentage; yet the outcome was approximately the reverse of those percentages--a considerable shift (and all early evening and thereafter--how interesting)).

Not to worry, though, I'm sure the Republicans have thought it over and regret their mendacious and criminal electoral behaviors in past elections, so they will play fair this time ;-) (wink), surely? But, just in case, and while it might not make a difference, be damned sure you vote--and also physically collect and escort all your friends, acquaintences and family (and any receptive strangers) that are willing to vote Democratic.
