'Super Tuesday' for Fighting Dem Vets - Recap and Summary

The 'Super Tuesday' primaries on September 12th are the last great battle for who will be the Dem nominees to face the Republican Incumbents in the November Mid-term Election. The following is a summary of the primary battles faced by Fighting Dem Vets. Some vets facing other Dem challengers will be casualties of the primary season and some will emerge as the official nominees. The following information is from our website Fighting-Dems.com.

62 Fighting Dem Vets currently running.
50 are the Democratic Party nominees.
7 have September 12th primary battles.
4 are unopposed (and thus will be the official nominees).
1 is a write in.

54 are certain nominees; 0-10 more are possible.
54-62 possible nominees to face Republican incumbents in the GE

A general commentary and state-by-state survey may be found below.

It is perhaps worthwhile to reflect that Dem primaries are not the measure of who would be the most effective candidate in the GE, but it is a popularity contest (or name recognition process) among Dems. Candidates who might be the best to appeal to independents and moderate (even conservative at this point) Republicans do not always get the Democratic nod. This is especially true of Fighting Dem Vets. The appeal of these vets is that they can appeal to a wide spectrum of voters, but most are new to the political process and have been running on limited funds. Ergo, they do not have the name recognition of more established Dems in their districts.

Despite handicaps and disappointments (we lost Andrew Horne in KY, Terry Stulce in TN, Rick Penberthy in FL), the FDs have done very well. At this moment there a 54 Fighting Dems running as the official nominees, many in districts where the Republican Incumbents have not been challenged in recent elections. This means they are building the Democratic Party from the ground up in their districts and even if many will lose, they will be poised in the future to raise challenges armed with the advances made in this election process.

In the end, we will have after Tuesday about 58 Fighting Dems running in the GE as nominees. The ones who are successful in November will be among the new breed of Democrats (including non-vet Fighting Dems who won out in their districts) who take the Hill back from the neo-con fascists.

A final survey will be made next week with all the Fighting Dem Vet nominees listed as we advance our attack to the General Mid-term Election in November.

Final note. Even Conservative Republicans are fair game! See the video on Raw Story that picked up on a piece from CBS News of a lifelong conservative Marine assailing Bush policies. Moreover, and more importantly, retired Marine Col. Jim Van Riper says that he is so disappointed with the president's failed policies that he "hopes the Democrats win control of the House" as a Democratic House may be able to "tie this administration in such knots that it can do no more Damage." Now those are words from a conservative Republican vet!!

Recap of the November Nov 5th Florida Primary for Fighting Dem Vets

Rick Penberthy (FL-05) and John M. Kennedy (FL-15) lost primary bids. Rick was a great candidate. A teacher as well as a vet and very articulate. He will continue to be active in the district nonetheless. John M. Kennedy, a disabled vet, ran against another vet, "Dr. Bob" Bowman who won the day.
