Bush = Nixon with a Republican congress?
It was a little before my time but from what I read and remeber I doubt Nixon would have been impeached nor would he have resigned with the Congress critters that Bush has in his hip pocket.

Bush has commited crimes far in excess of what Nixon did and yet Congress turns a blind eye.

1. Bush has made a lot of millionaires in the corporate world
and in the oil industry..Much of that money has certainly showed up in the Rpeublican war chests..Nixon did not have this luxury of so much corporate wealth so quickly.

2. Actually it was a group of GOP, congressmen who told Nixon
to resign, they would mot sacrifice their party for him. Today's Republicans would do better to learn from that, if they want to survive.

As pointed out above, it's true that a delegation of repug congressmen called on Nixon to ask him to resign. Not to impugn their (possibly?) "statesman-like" motives, but I think they were just trying to escape the looming articles of impeachment certain to be brought by the Democratic majority in the house.

They were successful, and Nixon was allowed to resign and leave town just about one jump ahead of the impeachment posse. Better to have him resign, rather than suffer the ignomy of being witness to his impeachment.

Ford's unconditional pardon of Nixon for anything he HAD done, or MIGHT HAVE DONE, was the icing on the cake that helped put Jimmy Carter in office.

The repug house controlled impeachment of Clinton was totally payback "because we can" (according to Newt Gingrich).

6. Bush's crimes are FAR worse than anything Nixon contemplated
Nixon was mentally ill. Bush, or whoever is really president now, is evil. Nixon never wanted to convert the entire world to his religion.
