Elder Manufacturing, whose slogan is “Elderwear: We Care”, was producing uniforms at a factory they own in El Salvador . Recently the company decided to move its operation to a new factory located almost two hours away from the current site. The announcement was made on a Friday afternoon and on Monday morning workers were expected to add an additional four hours to their working day by commuting to the new factory.

The workers protested and asked that the company pay their severance. The company responded by claiming that the workers had abandoned their jobs and were therefore not entitled to any severance nor would they be allowed to work in the new factory.

Thanks to the support of their union leaders, the workers at Quality have been able to sit down at the table with legal representatives from the factory. However, the company is only offering 50% of the severance that is legally due to the workers. Negotiations will continue on Monday, September 11, when worker leaders and company lawyers continue their negotiations.

Send a letter to Elder Manufacturing and emphasize the importance of living up to their “we care” commitment by paying the workers 100% of the severance that they are owed! And tell them they need to respect the right of workers to join a union and defend their rights at work!
