War And Peace in the South Bay - 1966
http://www.dailybreeze.com/news/articles/3881222.html?showAll=y&c=y

The Dow Chemical Company was being protested because of its production of napalm.

..."In early May, a Daily Breeze reporter sat in on a meeting of the Students for a Democratic Society, or SDS, which discussed in detail plans to protest the flammable liquid and the Torrance facility that produced it. A story was later published under the oddly ambiguous headline, " 'Ultra-Lefts' Make Plans."...

..."On May 28, 1966, about 150 protesters led by SDS staged an orderly demonstration in front of a Dow building naturally empty on a Saturday. Many waved signs with slogans such as "Napalm is filthy murder" and "Stop napalm."...

Dana Rohrabacher, still a major rw'er, staged a counter protest which disbanded 'after only a few minutes'.

In 1967 the city denied permits for a larger ( up to 15,000 ),protest which would be huge for this city even today.

Here's the kicker: look what the City Council did:

'In December 1967, the Torrance City Council waded into the debate, declaring "Dow Chemical Day in Torrance." The council commended the company for being a "good neighbor" and demonstrating courage, honor and dignity in the face of "prolonged harassment and abuse from a noisy minority of persons who object to Dow's efforts to serve its country at the time of war."

The more things change, the more they remain the same!
