Personally, living through it once was enough for me.....

It was a hideous nightmare (I had many friends in the area, though none turned out to be victims). I thought the coverage today was way overblown to the point of being offensive but obviously not everyone here on DU agrees with me.

be 9/11. This country will never be allowed to heal, because this cabal wants to keep the wound open, and use it for political gain and to frighten people.

9. I'm sure there's some quality material out there, but I'm just not one who

finds comfort in reliving horrible times. Some images are burned on my brain: Bobby Kennedy's assassination, the heartbreaking Challenger explosion with Christie McAuliffe, and scenes of celebrations of the fall of the Berlin Wall can each bring me to tears. I don't understand the need to see the same footage, over and over, and relive the pain of seeing it the first time.

10. I'm offended by both the media and the Republicans exploiting the death

of 3000 of my fellow countrymen on this day for their personal political advantage. It sickens me. Apparently, you find it appropriate. We have a difference in values.

I'm also sickened by the deaths of another 3000 of my countrymen in Iraq in a ridiculous war against someone who hated AlQueda as much as we do. You okay with that too?

12. Sorry if I overreacted, but I'm really nauseated by the coverage.....

It has been sickening, the media refuses to do its job and tell the truth and the public (see PT9/11 etc)apparently laps it up. Its cheap. Its tawdry commercialization of the greatest tragedy of my lifetime.

I've had enough. I want it to be September 12th and start thinking about beating Dewine, Chafee, Santorum, Talent and Kyle. The 24/7 saturation coverage of the 9/11 tragedy may be okay for some personality types, but others of us freak out. I never want to remember the pain I felt 9/11/2001 again. Some people do. That's their choice but I personally find it a living nightmare.

Why is reliving horrible, nightmarish events over and over and over supposed to be so liberating? It leaves me very, very cold.

IF it is bad for 3000 Innocent Iraqis to die .. (it is )

IF it is bad for 3000 Innocent Palestinians to die .. (it is )

IF it is bad for 3000 Innocent Jews to die .. (it is )

IF it is bad for ANY innocent human beings to die ..... of COURSE it is ...

Then it is equally bad, at the very least, that 3000 innocent americans died ....

WHY would your let your valid distrust and anger at one political party affect your basic humanity ?

Cmon ..... those were REAL people in those buildings ... mothers, fathers, sons and daughters ....

I respect the right to criticize the media .... but the fact that 3000 innocent people died that day is enough to at least ponder it, and memorialize it fairly ....

You have every right to object to its 'usage' as a political symbol .... but the fact that those people should be remembered, in some decent way, is unimpeachable ....

All those people murdered were working people trying to make a
living. Most had families. Almost all were civilians. There were
even children present in the buildings.

Even the Japanese kamekazi's attacked only military targets. The
Islamic terrorists and Nazi's have no problem killing civilians.

The terrorist act of 911 was on same level as Nazi's gassing
innocent men, women & children.

Regardless of one's political party, Americans have every right
to memorialize in a solemn manner the worst massacre of civilians
in our history, on its 5 year anniversary.

Thank goodness I am not yet so crass as to dismiss today's events
simply because we have repugs occupying white house and congress.
I am American first, Democrat 2nd. If someone has a problem with
that then I think they have a problem.

But I didn't turn the tv on much, only on certain occasions. But that doesn't mean I will never forget what happened on September 11, 2001. It always makes me sad.

- That said, I did watch some of it. And I felt thankful that none of my family or friends died that day and I hope and pray that the families of those who did have found some type of closure in the past five years.

I guess the coverage of the 09/11 memorial events is a lot like watching a not-for-prime time movie. If you do not like what is on the TV, you have the option to choose not to watch it or just turn the box off.

to do is to go on a media blackout. I don't watch the news and I don't subscribe to the paper. I get my news from the headlines in the Latest Breaking News forum, only clicking on one for more information if I am interested. We have to do this in our house because the indigestion we had from the rage we were feeling inside was affecting our sleep. You should try it! As a result, September 12 feels like September 11, except that it is Tuesday.

FDR did not use the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor to become a tyrant and take civil liberties away from most citizens, the Nisei being the exception, nor did he labeled his critics enablers of the Axis powers.

Bush took 9-11 and turned it into an obscenity, a pretext for tyranny, much in the same way as Hitler used the Reichstag fire to consolidate his power.
