GOP Senator: Al Qaeda, Iraqi Insurgents Are "Same Group Of Killers"

Add Sen. Kit Bond (R-MO) to the list of Republicans muddling who we are fighting in the "war on terror."

Speaking on Friday, Bond wrongly said that those who carried out the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks and those who we are fighting in Iraq are the "same group of killers."

But Americans should know that's not true, no matter how many times Republicans trot out the argument.

But, Rethugs are incapable of rational thinking.

4. There are numerous groups fighting in Iraq.

Some are strikingly similar, no doubt, to AQ-central. Others are completely different.

There is no one group of "insurgents" in Iraq. Some attribute the traits of one subgroup to the entirety of the fighters; others attribute the traits of a a different subgroup to the entirety of the fighters. Both commit the same logical error, rendering their conclusions fallacious.

there's a study cited that says that of the 30,000 insurgents, 4-10% are foreign fighters, and from a long list of countries -- algeria, saudi arabia, syria, etc.

the bulk of the insurgents are sunni iraqi arabs, the study suggested.
