Primary voters. Who did you vote for today and why did you vote for them?

My boss just left our office a few minutes ago and just before she left she was finalizing her vote for the DC primary today ... the polls close here in 10 minutes. She's typically very active in politics and an informed voter, yet it's so funny to see what voters base their vote on when it comes down to a last-second decision ... she literally had about ten minutes to finally decide who she was going to vote for in the Mayor primary today (and other races too).

It made me curious .... what do the politically informed voters (the DU community) base their votes on? If you voted today, what races did you vote in? And why did you vote for them? Did something influence your vote that you don't think should influence your vote? What's your top criteria when voting for someone?

Food for thought....did any of these things affect the way you voted?
- Website design
- Attractiveness of the candidate
- Energy / charisma of the candidate
- How many times I saw their commercial
- How many yard signs I saw up
- How likely the candidate is to win anyway
- Similarily of the candidate to myself
- Where the candidate went to school / degrees
- What offices they've held before
- If they are the incumbent or not

3. Voted for Tassini - anti-war candidate, Green - progressive

Unfortunately, all the people (1 million) who march in the streets against the war - do not vote. So the party machine is free to install puppets instead of people who would represent us. Majorly pissed off. Ashamed of my city, state.

5. Kweisi Mfume

For a very simple reason ... he was the BEST candidate for Maryland and would be the best one for the national party, too.

It appears he will not win. The apparant winner is Ben Cardin .... a man very much in the mold of the man who he'll replace - Paul Sarbanes.

So win or lose, I win.

8. Steele was essentially unopposed.

No surprise he won big.

Have you heard the BIGGER news ..... Willy Don Scheaffer appears to be on the verge of conceding. His Headquarters at D'Alessio's in Baltimore took the food back to the kitchen and the campaign sent the suporters home. No concession yet, but he's down around 10 points.

He was a great mayor, on okay governor, a fair Comptroller (at first) ...... but now .... he should never have run. He's been an embarassment to the office, to the party and to himself.

Seriously, the guy wanted it bad. If he'll work that hard to win the election, I really think he'll work hard for the city.

I met him twice, once a friend took me to his fundraiser and the second time he came to my door...I also missed him another time at my door. My boss said she got three phone calls from him .... that's not normal for a mayor election.
