1. I think that's why so many of us liken him to a Chimpanzee.

We are subconsciously trying to distance ourselves from him. Sadly, by doing so, we're denying the central fact that Bush is all too human, possessed of the same DNA as the rest of us.

Much as we'd like to believe otherwise, he's one of ours. So I share your despair, Tom.

I am just cycling, trying to think of a somewhat senseable reply.

4. I just had a thought.

Bush could become a powerful icon for the future.

Arguably, one of the major failings of the human race is our powerful tendency towards hubris. We are always overstretching ourselves, secure in our arrogantly high opinion of our abilities and judgement. We erect statues to the most blatant egomaniacs from history, largely those individuals who were lucky enough to achieve what they set out to achieve. This spurs some of us on to try to recreate or better their "heros" achievements.

Maybe instead we should build statues to the biggest assholes in every generation. That way, when some young buck (or buckette) starts getting way above themselves with their grand schemes for changing the world, the rest of us can point to a bronze sculpture of some schlemiel who failed spectacularly in a similar endeavour. And who should be the supreme icon of outreaching one's grasp? Why the Shrubster himself.

He is a one man object lesson in the inadequacy and stupidity of which we are all so manifestly capable. A statue of him on every streetcorner would go far to reining-in the excesses of the rest of us. And he would have finally done some good.

6. Bush isn't fully human. Not really.

Because what separates us the most from animals? The ability to consciously put ourselves in another person's shoes: empathy.

Bush, being a textbook case narcissist, is completely lacking in empathy. Other people exist only to prop up his high opinion of himself. Anyone that threatens his image of himself either doesn't exist (in Bush's mind) or must be squashed like a bug. Because underneath that monstrous ego there is a void. He's completely empty inside. And he's terrified of confronting that nothingness.

This is probably why they keep his motorcade so far away from harmless protesters. Just seeing people who disagree with him drives him crazy.
