Cardin is the stronger candidate against Steele IMO

1. So it would seem
The margin has held steady all night. They drawn support, really, from the same areas, from this point forward. All the outlying areas - more inclined to support Cardin - have reported, so I see little chance for the margin to change very much.

The Cardin camp is witing patiently for Mfume to concede. The Mfume camp is whispering about a run for Mayor to replace O'Malley.

Cardin and Mfume are friends. I expect this will end with some serious unanimity.

The good news is that Scheaffer is out. Good riddance.

3. Yeah Schaeffer lost it when he endorsed Bush in 1992..
No better than Zell at that point. I'm glad he is out!

6. That was the start.
The kissy face with Ehrlich. The perfectly despicable conduct in meetings in Annapolis. He just got real curmudgeonly. He became that crotchety old man who yelled "hey you kids. Get off my grass."

He fancied himself a latter day Louis Goldstein. Sorry, Willie Don .... you're no Louie Goldstein.

2. Time to get on board with Cardin
I confess I know nothing about Cardin and have stood by Mfume from the beginning. Speaking only for myself, its time to stand behind Cardin (assuming these numbers hold up). Having Steele win this election is NOT a pleasant option.

4. There's absolutely NO reason not to support Cardin
They're both good guys. You and I clearly had our preference, but that doesn't matter now. In fact, on issue after issue, they're pretty damned close.

No, as an Mfume supporter who will be MORE than happy with a Senator Cardin, tonight I get to have my cake and eat it too. Win or lose, we win.

get this nomination. He has so much to offer.

I hope he runs again.

Best wishes for November to the Democrat facing GOP hack Steele - Ben Cardin.

16. The current whispers are that Mfume will run for mayor of Baltimore
No confirmation on that yet, but it seems to be the lastest buzz.

7. I don't think it'll change much
9 points is a big number to overcome.

Do you know which parts of Baltimore have yet to be reported? Mfume's stronger in the south and Cardin's stronger in the north.

10. Nope, sorry.

I just heard on FOX 45 that Baltimore is 50% outstanding. Not sure which areas or precincts.

HUSB, I gotta' say, I think we're in trouble in November. Nominating an all white ticket is going to turn off African Americans in a major way. Its easy to claim race shouldnt be a factor, but the bottom line is, it is, and will be in Novemember.

Why should African Americans turnout for a O'Malley/Cardin/Gansler/Whoever ticket?

They really have no reason to. Especially after the way the Dem party bosses treated Mfume in the primary (writing him off before he even announced, drying up his money supply, pushing Cardin hard, etc.)

The entire ticket may suffer from poor turnout among Africans Americans.

Frankly, Im pretty fvcking nervous.

11. I don't think you are giving African American voters enough credit...
They are savvy enough to know a vote for Michael Steele is not in the best interests of anyone. All of the Democratic candidates have shown a strong commitment to issues affecting African Americans.

12. If you feel that way .......
.... why did you vote for Cardin instead of Mfume?

We have what we have now ..... so we all need to get on board with Cardin. For what its worth, Cardin and Mfume are friends. I expect nothing less than a MOST gracious concession and real support from Mfume for Cardin.

17. Well, for starters, I was banking on a Simms victory.
Second, I voted for Cardin out of loyalty. I worked at his HQ, donated, participated in lit drops. However, at the last minute I had a slight change of heart. I was leaning towards Mfume, but the 'electability' thing kept pulling me back to Cardin. The real straw that broke the camels back for me and lead to my vote for Cardin was the fact that Mfume literally has no cash and a very small fundraising base. I figured we (and the DSCC) could not afford to pull millions out of RI, VA, MO, OH, MT, TN, etc... to save Mfume if he fell too far behind.

20. I am too...it's not enough for voters to NOT support Steele...
there has to be a motivation to go to the polls in a mid term election...sorry, but that motivation for a reliable voting block is gone. I crossed my fingers hoping Mfume could pull it out...what people fail to understand is that it hurts us in the gubernatorial race too. We need the numbers....even those of us who will vote for O'mally aren't that pleased. I personally can't stand the guy.

9. I think either Dem would beat that idiot Steele, but Cardin would be.....
easier. The less money we have to spend in Maryland, the more we have to spend in Missouri, Tennessee, Arizona, Nevada and Virginia. I'm just sorry Chafee won.

14. Rowdyboy, you're right, of course, but Maryland's gunna need
national support, too. Steele is to be underestimated only at extreme peril. The Maryland black vote is NOT monolithic and, in general, is not happy. As but one example, Prince Georges County (immediately east of DC) is an area where there are many very affluent, and somewhat more conservative black voters. The business community has ignored that area. The political community has taken it for granted. The population is, indeed, restive and a guy like Steele - who **seems** quite moderate and populist - can make some serious dents in the 'NOT going to be taken for granted' crowd. And I don't blame them one whit. They have a legitimate gripe. Yes, the Dems have the positions that favor them, but the Republicans have a guy that could *appeal* to them.

And lest we forget, in any area of the state when there are blocks of black voters, there are issues the republicans hold that appeal to them. Gay marriage is one. Yes, blacks are likely to accept it in an overall sense, but some of those black megachurches are just as conservative as any white megachurch.

Anyway, without rambling any further, the 'black vote' is no longer safe to simply take for granted. It has to be courted. Going back to PG County for a bit. It is the highest income, most highly educated, most socially sophisticated black population in the country. That can't be ignored anymore. It LONG past time to take this voting block deadly seriously.

13. Not too surprising. Mfume was always the dark horse...
hell, I was calling this for Cardin a year ago. At first, I figured Mfume to be a loser because of the scandals at the NAACP, which would have been used against him, right or wrong. Then, later, I continued to think this was Cardin's race simply becuase he ran the better campaign, raised more money, and had far more party support. Those last twoo factors can only be overcome by a brilliant campaign, and Mfume didn't have it.

All in all, I like both candidates. I think black voters are smart enough not to look simply at the race issue and vote for Steele, or feel abandoned over the Mfume loss. There's more to an election than race, after all, and black voters know this as much as anyone.

18. President Bunnypants - The Idiot King
What's wrong with this human ? Is he insane ? The *liberal* media is brainwashing all the liberals with mind control ? Oil is thicker than blood ! And now the real terrorists turned out to be the Bush Nazi Administration. HEIL ! Junior

We're all gonna die !!!!! lets go get something to eat... meet me when I get off, I'll buy you a beer.

These humans are the products of twisted minds. Gathering power like the minions of evil with death and destruction in it's path. A complete and total belief of superiority of all life on this planet, and a reason for their pointless, evil, and nincompoop lives.
Bush has already destroyed life... and yet these minions still follow like the blind sheep they are.

The Bush 911 5 year *crap* turned out to connect the Twin Towers with Iraq... Good Morning IRAQ !!!

Did I mention how much I hate these people yet ?

The Bush Crime Family is the rot of humanity.
