Question Re: Chafee
Edited on Wed Sep-13-06 08:13 AM by MJDuncan1982
The MSM is reporting that he is the anti-war candidate.

Is his victory good for us or bad? If bad, is it because he is anti-war which will take that card off of the table for the Dem?

2. Liebs votes for Reid, Chaffee for Frist. The answer should be obvious.

(though I would prefer to have none of them).

Each times a vote mattered, Chaffee has voted with his party.

5. Becareful your on shaky ground here.
Remember the truth doesn't matter anymore.

Some people just can't get it through their head what a win in Chaffe means.

Continued GOP control!

6. Chaffee is more liberal than most Dems...
and I disagree he has voted with the repubs on important votes.

I hope Whitehouse wins in November but if not, at least we know a right winger will not be in that seat. Chaffee would vote with the dems.

3. A vote for Chaffee is a vote for a Republican senate majority
anti-war or not. Do you like having Republicans get more committee chairs? Do you like having Republicans heading senate committees? No? Then vote for the real progressive, Sheldon Whitehouse (D).

8. I read somewhere late last night , while bleary eyed...so don't remember
where. Someone wrote a newspaper article saying that if the Dems only win the house and not the Senate...we will have NO control on who is appointed for the Supreme court or whether or not we get out of Iraq. That was disappointing/devastating! We MUST win the senate by '08 or we're doomed. Our very way of life depends on it.

I :puke: at the thoughts of another conservative SC judge.

7. Chaffee's victory is bad for us
Rhode Island is a mostly Democratic state. If ultra-conservative Laffey had won the primary, he would have been killed in the general election. With Chaffee in the running, Democratic candidate Sheldon Whitehouse faces a much tougher battle. This has repurcussions for other House races too, one must remember. The Democrats will now be forced to spend a lot more money in Rhide Island -- money that could have gone to Missouri, Tennessee, or some other tight, battleground state.

11. is a re-election victory good for Chafee?
the RNC helped him in the primary this time, but will they in the future? Will Chafee have more leverage in the Senate on issues like stem cell research, healthcare reform, and ending the Iraqi War under a Democratic majority or with his own party in control?

What about if Democrats win back control of Congress? What leverage will he have as a member of the minority party after the elections? How much would being re-elected this year help Chafee if he wanted to run for President in 2008...what kind of chance would this snowball have in any of the Republican primaries?
