Senator Obama was a video guest on Blitzer's Situation Room today. Wolf posed a question about opposition to the Administration's efforts to amend our compliance with Geneva conventions in terms of "resisting" Bush. The Senator deftly refused to take the bait.
Obama rephrased the issue as one of asserting Congressional oversight, which is their job. In essence he said, Nothing personal, Mr. President, this is what we're supposed to do. Tough luck..
Ha. Bush is a failed, lame duck President. The Congress knows that and Obama spoke today as one of the clear, objective voices for returning checks and balances to the legislative process.
Smart politics, imo.
Senator Obama will be around long after Mr. Bush retires to a condo in Houston. And Obama's right.
One of the pressing Democratic Congressional issues is oversight, which the Republicans have abandoned. We can return that oversight with a Democratic Congress this fall.
