I am not nearly as optimistic as I was in 2004. I truly believe due to lack of free press and rigged elections that we are already a totalitarian state. All of the pomp and circumstance of democracy is just a show now to give the illusion that we are a republic. We can have demonstrations so the populace, if somehow they learn enough to be angry, can protest because they have no impact if they aren't reported at all. Despite all of the polling data I will be shocked if the Dems take even one part of Congress. Shocked.
But I must say that recently I felt a bit more optimistic, just a little, by two articles.
One that the RNC is spending $60 million on this election vs. the DNC $12 million. If the fix was in completely why spend so much? It seems desperate and aware of extreme vulnerbility. So their fear gives me hope.
The other is the fact that the * administration is desperate to have their crimes considered legal by new legislation that must happen immediately. So all of the torture, no due process, privacy violations etc. could harm them, if not make them vulnerable to prosecution if they are out of power. This big push wouldn't be so necessary if they knew they had nothing to fear.
But I am so tired from hoping only to be defeated that even this only gives me a little hope.
