What we saw today at the WH presser was a desperate criminal
There's no other way to described George W. Bush.

Common criminal (Drunk driving; Harkin Energy)

National criminal (NSA Spying)

International criminal (Lying a nation into a war of pure aggression and empire)

Crimes Against Humanity (Torture)

War Crimes (Abu Ghraib)

High Crimes and Misdemeanors (Election cheating, exposing a covert US intelligence agent)

Today's press conference saw the public tactics of a man desperate to shift the laws of once great nation to cover his own misdeeds. As was made eminently clear by Constitutional scholar Jonathan Turley, the Red Cross, when it interviews and reports the result of those interviews of the detainees tortured under orders endorsed by the man at whose desk the buck does, indeed, stop, his crimes will be clear to everyone.

Mr. Bush fears as much as anything a House of Representatives newly energized by a Democratic majority, armed with subpoena power, and conducting hearings with witnesses sworn legally to tell the truth.

Forget the rhetoric. Forget the partisan cheering. These are deadly serious issues.

We have no choice, if the allegations prove, as we know they will, true. We must impeach and remove from office the President, the Vice President, and certain others of his administration. Following the political removal of these criminals from office, we cannot rest.

We must indict.

We must try.

Upon conviction, we must punish. There will be no rehabilitation save the reputation of our once and future great nation. The punishments must be so severe that no one will dare repeat the actions, the hubris, the arrogance - the criminality - of George W. Bush and his gang of thugs. In meting the punishment, as they themselves so love to say, no options shall be off the table.

Yes, what we saw today was the rantings of a desperate criminal.

4. I completely agree.
We are where we are now because we were so pathetically gentle to Richard Nixon. It taught a generation that nothing mattered but a connection to power.

7. I just searced for a thread I wrote about that very thing
I can't find it now. At the time, the notion of Nxon standing trial was more than I felt the country could bear. I felt Ford did the right thng.

I no longer think that. Indeed, in his decision to pardon Nixon, he may well have cost us far more than any of us back then could even imagine.

10. not just Nixon
When the same elite industrialists nearly completed a military coup against FDR, it was swept under the rug "for the good of the country." When the Iran Contra thugs were pardoned, the same lesson was taught. When criminal acts against the Clintons were not prosecuted, the same lesson was taught. When Al Gore did not push the election fiasco to its Constitutional finale, the same lesson was taught. And so it goes. Time after time, treason at the hands of Republicans has been set aside.

They will not stop until they are made to feel pain.

19. The country's good is not served by injustice.
It is served by "Justice for ALL."

Had Nixon been a real leader, he would have marched to the federal prison and slammed the bars shut on himself, becoming a hero and model of ethical behavior in defeat. Every American would have bragged about it. But he saved his own ass first, just like George.

Teaching children that rich men can get away with murder is hardly congruent with our myths of ourselves, and it is always damaging to contradict your own myths.

5. There were forums on Capitol Hill today,
chaired by Chris Shays (R-CT).

It is finally official. Shays was informed by panels of experts that Iraq is in the middle of a civil war. Shays looked as if he'd seen a zombie.

So they can't deny it anymore.

6. With you absolutely 100%. It has been evident for quite some
time that their goal was to absolutely destroy this country as a democracy. We must see to it that these criminals pay for all that they have done. Convicted and punished. We will not settle for less. We must do all that we can to save our country.

22. Their original objective was to restore or achieve as close to
absolute power to the executive branch as possible. The original objective came from dick cheney and donald rumsfeld, who were Washington players during the Nixon era, and saw what happened when a president breaks the law and faces accountability for it. I've read quite a bit about this by now. They were bound and determined to fix that if they ever got back in power - to make sure that never happened again. The presidency, they thought, had been neutered - no power. Not like the good old days. And they wanted to do something about that in the worst way. And they have succeeded. In the worst way.

These ARE MULTIPLE high crimes and misdemeanors. If Clinton were guilty of even a fraction of these things, the republi-CONS and CONservatives all over everywhere would be building gallows for him.

I'd be willing to bet that James Baker or some such powerbroker/fixer from bush-the-first has come to little Caligula and told him he's in grave danger of facing war crimes charges. So his idea is to fix the laws, retroactively, to cover his ass and render legal what illegal acts he has authorized, endorsed, and/or called for. SOMEBODY's told him he's in deep doo-doo. And he's probably further agitated because the easy no-brainer, willing (would that be THE "coalition of the willing"?), voluntary rubber-stamp brigade in Congress that's always snapped to attention and obeyed without question - is now balking. He can't even count on that automatic get-out-of-jail card now, thanks to the reluctant John Warner, John McCain, and Lindsay Graham, AND Colin Powell for good measure. They're not playing now - the ultimate adding-insult-to-injury situation. Which no doubt is already MOST upsetting to him - at a time when he NEEDS that blind loyalty to save his own ass from a really big problem. One that, I suspect, is a LOT bigger than Jim Baker's - OR bush-senior's ability to "fix."

So he's got a double bogey to face now. Not the place in which junior prefers to find himself.

Maybe he's in just a little too deep at this point. I'd probably be acting pretty damned agitated now, too.

Wow. We've never had a war criminal for a "president" before, have we?

8. His spewing rhetoric today was a lot like Delay's nonsense after his
indictment. Chucklenuts' adamant denial that he has done nothing wrong is just like good ol Duke Cunningham's. Chimpy's insistence that everything was legal is just like Ohio's Noe and Ney. Any of this sound familiar? The list goes on and on. The repugs get face time in front of a camera after the indictments to protest their innocence than back again to cry copiously after pleading guilty and heading off to Cell Block C.

Chucklenuts thinks if he mouths KKKarl's lies often and hard enough and tap dance around enough people will forget all he has done. Not likely, Bucko. Stage One is done. He has told everyone he has done nothing wrong. I'm now just waiting for him to cry copiously right before heading off to the slammer. (I hear they just LOVE cowboys in prison!) From my keyboard to God's ears.

28. Bush is a "clear and present danger" to the Republic
Bush primary mission is NOT to protect us, but to abide by his oath of office:

:--"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States."

http://www.law.cornell.edu/constitution/constitution.articleii.html#section1

If he is not stopped, and stopped soon, he will further erode constitutional rule and he will use the awesome powers he has amassed against the people of the United States.

and getting pardons by daddy and his helpers. He is still AWOL from the military and being a two time enlisted person that really boils my oil. But that aside the little prick has used the law as his personal play toy never realizing that law is intended for everyone, not just the poor and underprivileged. Sorry piece of shit pResident needs to be in prison and if he is not put there than this country is a joke, a bad joke. Are we really so pathetic as a people that we are going to allow this to continue? I read a comment yesterday that stated we resemble the germany of 1930's and are quickly approaching the germany of the 1940's. Will people of conscience stand by and watch the rise of fascism in this country?

43. Again, on what data do you base this "tens of millions" statement?
You can't just keep throwing out some hypothetical "statistic" like that without having hard data to back it up. You may "think" it's that many, but without any confirming data that estimate seems pretty lame. I believe it is irresponsible to continually throw out such numbers without having any basis in fact for them.

41. i rather disagree...
...a more plausible explanation for Junior's increasingly erratic and petulant behavior can be found in something more obvious than fear of retribution for things he clearly does not regard as crimes. Instead, this is the one of the very, very few times in his life (childhood as much as adulthood) when responsible adults have told him "NO"...and what we're watching is his frustration and anger at not being allowed to have or do something he feels entitled to. As a personality, Junior is too much the narcissistic monomaniac to feel guilt or remorse; and he is quite convinced that he has nothing to fear from Congress, the media or the courts, in terms of being held accountable for his transgressions...and, given the obsequiousness of these institutions, rightfully so. Simply put, Junior is an overgrown, and exceptionally spoiled, child reacting badly to not getting his way, as he has been conditioned by a spineless Congress, accomodating judges and an almost worshipful media to expect automaticly.
