Olbermann: Bush's 'rush' to redefine Geneva Conventions may be mostly about 'covering his own backside'

David Edwards
Published: Saturday September 16, 2006

Keith Olbermann's Friday broadcast on MSNBC featured a long look at the President's contentious Rose Garden press conference on Friday, dubbing it the "Roast Garden," and then pondered whether Bush's urgency to redefine the Geneva Convention had more to do with "covering his own backside" than anything else.

At a Friday press conference, an animated President Bush tells reporters that the U.S. program to interrogate terrorist suspects will not continue unless Congress creates new legal definitions for Common Article 3 or the Geneva Conventions -- a move that has alarmed some GOP senators and former Secretary of State Colin Powell.

Bush also devoted his Saturday radio address to the issue.

In video of the Friday presser, a visibly angry President raises his voice as responds to reporters' questions.

1. Thank goodness for Olberman, Hersh, Hebert, and a couple more
who escape my pathetic memory right now. Without them there would be no record of the criminal activities of this administration.

Future generations will have to look to these people for a true account of what happened to the United States.

2. Does the press finally "get it?" If we "clarify" the Geneva
Convention, and urge other countries to adopt what we have done for the past 5 years that no person travelling on an American passport will be safe?

4. It seems that Bush is assuming the role of "The Decider" here...
...and the one thing that should be painfully obvious from his international "junkets" is that outside of the U.S. he "decides" jack squat.

I think some members of the press get it. Howard Finemann was a revelation on Olbermann's show this week. He wasn't even attempting to put a happy spin on "Yell At The White House Press Corp" Bush. The little bitch slap against David Gregory {"You took too long to get untangled, and you took too long to ask your question") shows not only our country but anyone in the world with the ability to receive an MSNBC / CNN / Fox news feed his true colors. There's a lot of work that needs to be done, and it's not getting done, and it won't as long as Bush's primary focus is Bush. His repeated demands of "my way or the highway" have led members of his own party to show him the signs pointing to the highway.

His frequent obscene, agitated outbursts...not exactly befitting "Born Again Bush," the image he loves to project to his whack-job fundie acolytes.

And bush is Squatting way too long in our White House. It will need to be fumingated, disinfected, and Vaporized before we get our next real President!

5. It's straight from Yahoo News...
"President Bush pauses during a Rose Garden news conference, Friday, Sept. 15, 2006 at the White House. (AP Photo/Ron Edmonds)"

My only guess is that the AP photographer caught the closeup at a time when the TV cameras were going for a longer distance shot. But it's 100% authentic and it's from Friday's press conference.

7. President Pissy Pants dodges the question
Edited on Sun Sep-17-06 09:23 AM by Botany
Changes the subject a la "Animal House, student court {Pre law = Pre Med ..... I will not
stand here and let you insult the United States of America}.

When asked about torture he babbles about the "qualities of the American people"
in comparison to the terrorist extremists. Leaving out that the question was
not about the American people but about the action bush and his administration
sanctioned.

Otter: Point of parliamentary procedure!
Hoover: Don't screw around, they're serious this time!
Otter: Take it easy, I'm pre-law.
Boon: I thought you were pre-med.
Otter: What's the difference?

Otter: Ladies and gentlemen, I'll be brief. The issue here is not whether we broke a few rules, or took a few liberties with our female party guests - we did.

Otter: But you can't hold a whole fraternity responsible for the behavior of a few, sick twisted individuals. For if you do, then shouldn't we blame the whole fraternity system? And if the whole fraternity system is guilty, then isn't this an indictment of our educational institutions in general? I put it to you, Greg - isn't this an indictment of our entire American society? Well, you can do whatever you want to us, but we're not going to sit here and listen to you badmouth the United States of America. Gentlemen!

13. GOOD call...
...and if I remember the press conference transcript correctly, Bush also said "Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!"

Can you believe the stones on bush? When asked about torture he talks about the
values of the American people.

11. I'm not a specialist in behavioral health...
But Bush is not sane. Watching that video, listening to his "Fourth Awakening" comments the other day, I don't believe this President is in his right mind.

12. That picture reminds me of some John Lennon lyrics
From the song "Crippled inside."

"One thing you can't hide, is when you're crippled inside."

Crippled Inside

John Lennon

You can shine your shoes and wear a suit
You can comb your hair and look quite cute
You can hide your face behind a smile
One thing you cant hide
Is when youre crippled inside

You can wear a mask and paint your face
You can call yourself the human race
You can wear a collar and a tie
One thing you cant hide
Is when youre crippled inside

Well now you know that your
Cat has nine lives
Nine lives to itself
But you only got one
And a dogs life aint fun
Mamma take a look outside

You can go to church and sing a hymn
You can judge me by the color of my skin
You can live a lie until you die
One thing you cant hide
Is when youre crippled inside

Well now you know that your
Cat has nine lives
Nine lives to itself
But you only got one
And a dogs life aint fun
Mamma take a look outside

You can go to church and sing a hymn
You can judge me by the color of my skin
You can live a lie until you die
One thing you cant hide
Is when youre crippled inside

One thing you cant hide
Is when youre crippled inside
One thing you cant hide
Is when youre crippled inside
