Here is an old rant to one of my Rethug friends,
that I never sent him! (His email that provoked it is attached below my rant.)

=================================================================
Keep on keeping at it! We will soon fulfill all the Bushbots' wishes and be well on our way to the end... Meanwhile, in the real world, poverty is up, real wages for real people is way down (except for the top 1%), abortions are up, and so are the deficit and the debt. You keep on concentrating on 3 individuals: Teddy, Bobby and Billy. Who cares about 300 Million people and the rest of the world, when you can have such fun buying into the standard Rethug distractions of 3 people and their idiocies?

For your sake, I will pray (and I am not even religious!) that none of your kith or kin ever have to come up against these closed-minded, science-rejecting, gun-toting nihilists.

I am actually deeply disappointed in you -- I thought deep down you were fundamentally like me and many others that I like: compassionate, benevolent and liberal (yes, that dreaded word, that I love and your own Jesus was) in outlook. But I am finding it increasingly hard to carry on this banter with you, because while I was merely worried about the Bushies in 2000, I now deeply loath these self-serving monsters and am not really well-disposed towards (especially educated) people still supporting them.

Where is your perspective? What good is your education if it does not give you this fundamental ability to discern? What did Clinton ever do that is demonstrably to the detriment of the vast majority of this country and the world, while at the same time lining the pockets of him and his buddies? This chicken-hawk coterie has sold a bill of goods about what is important (keeping gays from getting married, getting into other people's bedrooms, injecting religion into inappropriate public fora, dictating science curricula, rejecting scientific consensus) and even people like you who should know better, are trumpeting these plunderers' cynical incompetence. I am not sure I can carry on an intelligent banter with you any more since there is nothing that I can say to someone who still holds this administration up...

===========
His email provocation that began this rant:

> The brilliance of our president never ceases to amaze me! He has found a
> died-in-the-wool ultra-conservative (Harriet Miers) for the Supreme
> Court that does not even have a paper trail that can be attacked!
> Finally, the Supreme Court gets the conservative majority that models
> this country's population.
>
> Loonie-Libs the likes of Ted Kennedy (in between Vodka swigs and deep
> water swimming lessons) and Robert Byrd (in between KKK meetings and
> backroom pork deals for West Virginia) will have nothing to pontificate
> about! This should be a real hoot.
>
> All in all, it is truly a great time to live in America. Did that Alec
> Baldwin guy ever move to another country?

1. Re Thuggery writes
because while I was merely worried about the Bushies in 2000, I now deeply loath these self-serving monsters and am not really well-disposed towards (especially educated) people still supporting them.

This has been my position as well for quite some time. I am a Texan and perhaps a bit more experienced with Bush Jr. and when he was tapped by the RNC I wondered if, after all their perusing of candidates , that they determined that Bush was the best. It floored me at the time and time has borne out this incredulity. But more than incredulity, I too have become afraid of Bush Co and loathe what they are doing to my country. I have always been a devout Democrat, but I was never afraid of a Republican president and had this level of dislike as I have come to with this current administration.

3. I am not really a Democrat at all...
in any sense of deep party affiliation -- as a scientist, I believe(d) no party really has the truth all with it.

However, over the last few years, Democratic party leaders keep making me really really proud to even be associated with the party label at a superficial level. Most of them that are deeply Democratic (not the morally ambivalent Joementum types) are so cognizant of the public good and thus the need to work around the thugs, that it astounds me every time I hear statements from them that hint at this ("these lying, you know...", "there is no legal way to get from the supreme court decision to...").

Based on their exemplary behavior upon deep provocation from the enemy I am more and more inclined to not shy away from the party label. DU also has also helped enormously in this near-conversion...

2. Is your friend Catholic? If so, point out that, if he holds Byrd to his
views of a youth, then the Pope cannot stand scrutiny either, since he was a member of the Hitler Youth ...

Nor would Laura Bush withstand any scrutiny ... since she was SOBER when she killed her old boyfriend ...
