Keith Olbermann is rockin' my world again tonight!
------------------------------------------------------
Keith's COMMENTARY, a Preview:
------------------------------------------------------

The President of the United States owes this country
an apology.
It will not be offered, of course.
He does not realize its necessity.
There are now none around him who would tell him - or
could.
The last of them, it appears, was the very man whose
letter provoked the President into the conduct, for
which the apology is essential.
An apology is this President's only hope of regaining
the slightest measure of confidence, of what has been,
for nearly two years, a clear majority of his people.

4. I'll bet it is
Powell was the "loyal soldier" and did Shrubya's bidding at the U.N. and then had his credibility shredded. My anger at him (Powell) has worn off and now I just feel plain sorry for the guy. He only did what he has done his entire life -- followed orders. That didn't give the BFEE the right to ruin his good name.

5. I'm not so forgiving
Everyone gets one chance in life to stand up and make a difference. Powell knew what he was doing with his UN speech, knew he was lying for Bush, and also knew he would be believed. He knew the consequences. That was his one chance to do the world a favor and save it from this monster. The hell whether he had 'followed orders' all his life. A soldier is allowed to disobey some orders.

6. Welcome to DU! I applaud your excellent taste in broadcasters!
He IS the MAN!!! And sadly, when you consider the lay of the land in news shows, he's in a class by himself. Nobody else out there blowing the whistle and trumpeting the emperor's nakedness except for him. Too bad there aren't several like him oon the air at EVERY network.

7. It's definitely about the whole Powell thing from last week.
I listen to Keith on Dan Patrick's ESPN Radio show (which is a great way to get a line on what he's preparing for the night, when he's on) and he specifically referenced the statement of last Friday: "It is unacceptable to think."

Of course, the sentence went on from there, but that's not the point, and that's exactly what his point will be.

Since when is it OK for the President to tell Americans what it is acceptable and unacceptable to think? About ANYTHING?

Because if that's OK, then what he's telling us is, "It is unacceptable to think." Period.

8. More of KO's "Bush owes us an apology"
If Mr. Powell's letter -- cautionary, concerned, predominantly supportive -- can induce from you such wrath and such intolerance, what would you say were this statement to be shouted to you by a reporter, or written to you by a colleague?

"Governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed. That whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new government.”

Those incendiary thoughts came, of course, from a prior holder of your job, Mr. Bush.

They were the words of Thomas Jefferson.

He put them in the Declaration of Independence.
