It's 1992. There's NO talk of IranContra and BCCI throughout Bush1's term.

No talk of Iraqgate. There's been no investigation into Bush's covert activities. George Bush led the coalition in a war on Baghdad to protect Kuwait. They beat Saddam down within a short period of time.

Bill Clinton and George Bush are the choices for the voters in 1992. Who wins?

Bill Clinton has to stop acting like he won all by himself - he didn't.

Alot of other people riding Bush1's ass for his entire term helped weaken him to the point a Clinton COULD be heard and COULD win.

Better that than 4years of a Dem president urging support for Bush2 and his policies.

1. This subject was quashed so fast it was scary
---- By that, I mean the BCCI scandal, in which investigative journalist Danny Casolero died suspiciously the night before he was to have turned over some revelations he had gathered to a contact in Washington. It was no suicide. But the story ran for about a week, and then just disappeared,.... as if it had never happened. I'd love to get to the bottom of that one....

---- Incidentally, a young John Kerry was the prosecutor.

2. Clinton never mentions ONE WORD about BCCI in his book.

Even knowing some of the characters in BCCI popped up again in relation to 9-11 and Iraq, and Clinton had NOTHING to say?

BTW - Kerry wasn't the prosecutor - he was the senator who uncovered and investigated IranContra, BCCI and the illegal wars in Central America - some reporters who also worked on these stories were either found dead or forced out of their news organizations. These were the most dangerous investigations to be involved in at the time.

3. that IranContra was just allowed to dissipate was an abomination
I am still furious that the traitors were allowed to quietly slink away--only to reappear like the vampires they are in the halls of government. ANYone convicted of treason, as they essentially were, even if "pardoned," should NEVER be allowed to serve in public office, anywhere or at any time ever again. What are the chances this outrage can finally get the justice it deserves--or at least the exposure?

Kos that is delving into the matters as a continuing series and it's beginning to spread more.

There's a DU thread on this, too.

The REAL Reason for Secret Tribunals? Pakistan Terrorism Timeline
by LondonYank

Mon Sep 18, 2006 at 05:25:48 AM PDT

The Bush administration is determined to overturn established law and the Geneva Conventions when it comes to detainees in its gulags. I believe the reason is that virtually all the detainees and the evidence would point to Pakistan as the nexus for training, supply and financing of international terror.

Before 9-11 Pakistan was regarded as hostile to the USA and complicit in international terrorism against the USA. The terrorist training camps funded by the CIA and Saudis and run by Pakistan's ISI to resist the Soviets in Afghanistan had morphed into the world's leading terrorism resource.

Since 9-11 Pakistan has been embraced by the Bush administration as an ally and received billions of dollars of grants, loans and weaponry. Given that Pakistan is linked to ALL major terrorism attacks before 9-11, on 9-11 and since 9-11, you have to wonder whose side they are on.

The reason for secret trials and secret evidence may be the risk in open court that we would find out. We need a transparent judicial process if we are to discover the truth.

5. "It's the economy, stupid"
Voters weren't happy with the economy, and Clinton was able to convince voters he would do a better job.

the constant reporting of his dirty dealings. That made it easier for Clinton to be heard.

That was a big difference - media coverage was much more diligent then, even though it was still fairly protective of Bush1. Nothing like today with a media BLATANTLY protective of Bush2.

the Iran-Contra/BCCI thing pissed me off then, and pisses me off even more now that I understand it better and now that the same players are somehow still in the game.
