Cheney's quick visit raises cash for GOP
CAPE ELIZABETH - Vice President Dick Cheney raised more than $100,000 for the Maine Republican Party on Monday at a private fundraiser at an oceanfront mansion here, a party spokeswoman said.

Between 50 and 60 people attended the midday affair on Shore Road. Cheney spoke about national security issues and answered people's questions, said Julie O'Brien, executive director of the Maine Republican Party, who said she was excited to meet Cheney.

...

Lynch bought his home five years ago for nearly $2 million and restored it. Before moving to Maine, he worked as global head of investment-grade bonds for Donaldson, Lufkin and Jenrette in New York. He recently formed Legacy Properties Sotheby's International Realty in Portland.

...

Lynch declined to comment on the fundraiser. After the event, at a nearby church parking lot, he ordered a sound technician who had worked at the event to stop talking to a Press Herald reporter. Lynch then called the Cape Elizabeth Police Department when the reporter persisted in asking Lynch questions about the event. The police came but took no action.

Cheney comes to town and the Republicans hide him. What are they afraid of?

5. you not saying that some of that $9 billion Haliburton lost in Iraq ....
.... might have found it's into republican campaigns? Not unlike the "Lincoln Group,"
that was buying news in Iraq and got millions from the DoD and it's principals
just happened to make big contribution to republicans.

6. Ordered a sound tech to stop talking to a reporter.
I hope the tech told him to kiss his/her ass. Unlikely, but one can hope. These haughty pricks piss me off to no end. It's good to be King...

Cheney stumps in area for Sherwood

Only minutes after Vice President Dick Cheney spoke to 180 supporters of U.S. Rep. Don Sherwood, R-Tunkhannock Township, on Monday at a private fundraiser, his motorcade created heavy traffic delays on major area roadways.

The vice president’s visit to Northeastern Pennsylvania, which lasted less than three hours, did not include public remarks. He spoke briefly with nine supporters outside of Air Force Two before being transported under heavy security to a Wyoming County businessman’s home for the fundraiser. The event cost $1,000 per person, or $1,500 a couple.

--snip--

The traffic delays, which included the North Cross Valley Expressway being closed in both directions for about 15 minutes, and public cost of the fundraiser drew criticism from Sherwood’s opponent, Democrat Chris Carney, and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

“It doesn’t seem like he is representing the people of Luzerne County that well,” said Kyra Jennings, a Carney spokeswoman.

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee called on Sherwood’s campaign to reimburse the appropriate agencies for the expense incurred by the visit.

-------------------

this was in my neck of the woods... comments from co-workers yesterday regarding this:

-- most complained about the traffic problems and were figuring out alternate routes to get home

-- a few quipped that Sherwood's campaign must be in big trouble if he needed Cheney to help him out.

-- a lot of wondering why this was a "private gathering" and why Sherwood is afraid of being seen publically with Cheney
