Markos has a great post up about who is supporting the DSCC
and how much, and why it matters.

DSCC and members
by kos

"One of the key traits of party building is that members who have the financial means spend the money helping the party win elections. That includes things like campaigning for our candidates. But, as in all things politics, cold, hard cash is the most important measure of largess.

Today, the Hillary Clinton operation will announce a $1 million gift to the DSCC. Sounds impressive, but compared to her colleagues, it comes up woefully short.

Clinton currently has over $22 million in the bank without a serious opponent this November.

Also giving the DSCC $1 million gifts are Kennedy, Feinstein, and Durbin.

Kennedy has about $6.7 million in the bank, Feinstein has $8 million, and Durbin has $3 million.

Hillary can and should give more. Even if she is hoarding cash for a presidential run, an extra million or two can make a huge difference between a potentially friendly Dem-led Senate, and a Republican one that would investigate her administration to death."

I know the DNC is giving 2.6 million to the DCCC, but I don't think it has a set figure with the DSCC yet. Still negotiating, but 12 million overall in GOTV effort, the most ever by the DNC. That appears to be in addition to the state directors' salaries that have been hired.

It should be a joint effort while we build up a party that has been allowed to disintegrate outside of the DC power structure.

Note the figures for Jeffords and Lieberman in particular.

We are all in this together.

1. DSCC gets 10 bucks a month from me

If santorum and/or allen get defeated I will consider it an awesome investment.

No doubt my contribution will put Casey and/or Webb over the top. Right?

2. leave it to KOS to complain about a $1,000,000 donation
Edited on Tue Sep-19-06 01:54 PM by wyldwolf
scanning the list, I see a bunch of folks with no serious opposition to any campaigns they'll run in the future vs. only one person with a serious shot at running a presidential campaign.

But of course, KOS isn't known for having a strategic mind.

Fair? Well, I guess if you judge fair by knee-jerk reactionary standards.

scanning the list, I see a bunch of folks with no serious opposition to any campaigns they'll run in the future vs. only one person with a serious shot at running a presidential campaign.

But of course, KOS has a mind for political strategy like I have (apparently) with lots of zeros.

6. I swear if she offered to donate a kidney...
Kos would demand she give both....

She is giving more than any other Democrat and yet she is the object of scorn...

Pathetically transparent!

7. ... and like I said
...of all those on the list, who will have serious opposition in any future race? And who is the lone person there with a legitimate chance of running a presidential campaign?

How much is KOS contributing?

11. Yep...
She is tied for the most of any Democrat...

My point is still valid...

Kos's criticisms are not.

Why doesn't Kos demand Kennedy give more...he has almost no opposition and no intention of running for President? Why single out the one Democrat with possible Presidential aspirations in s2008?

The answer is simple...she is Hillary...no other reason required!

13. yeah? So?
Jefford is retiring. No opposition there.

According to the Great and Mighty KOS, Lieberman is not longer a Dem - why would the DSCC even want his "dirty" money (LOL!)... and he DOES have competition in a race.

21. Kos is correct....Hillary should chip in more...
Edited on Tue Sep-19-06 03:15 PM by KoKo01
I was dissed by some on DU when she came to NC and did a $1,000 a plate fundraiser last year that was "closed" to all but big business interests and FOB. I was told she was giving all that money to the Candidates of the DSCC. Whether she should given to the DSCC or not...I don't know...but they could use some help, too.

I guess one might assume that the NC money is included in the Million but what about all the other fundraisers she attended to get the rest of her 21 mil.

She needs to kick in. I've heard Webb needs some money and it would be well spent. It's not easy to fight against Macacca money.

22. How about all the fundraisers she attends...
On behalf of other candidates...

Besides Bill she is the biggest rainmaker in the party...

To criticize her for contributing $1 mil over and above all of her other efforts is just random Hillary-bashing!

23. Of course, Kos knows everything about campaign finance.
If Hillary gave a lot, I wonder if we'd hear about the tendrils of the DLC trying to co-opt progressive campaigns.

24. Update post from Kos...
http://www.dailykos.com/storyonly/2006/9/19/154013/972

"Also, I should not that all of these candidates are using their PACs to help out races this cycle. I'm sure you guys have seen Feingold and Warner advertise their efforts here and elsewhere. This isn't just about "helping" other candidates, but about providing the cold, hard cash to finish out the cycle strong. There's a loophole that allows senators to transfer as much money from their Senate committees as they want to the DSCC. If we have to sacrifice and contribute to campaigns from our household budgets, there's no reason that the Senators who would most benefit from being in the majority do so from their Senate budgets as well.

Feinstein, Kennedy, Wyden, and Durbin have stepped up in a big way. Others have made significant contributions as well, like the non-Democrat Jeffords."

Agree or disagree, call me mega-ditto or not....he does have a point.

Edited on Tue Sep-19-06 05:18 PM by SaveElmer
And the fact remains, Hillary has, along with a couple others, contributed the most...

She is also, aside from Bill, the biggest rainmaker in the party, and has done numerous fundraisers for other candidates and the party...

Criticism of her efforts on behalf of other Democrats is not warranted!
