The Democrats realized that Chavez's rhetoric sounded much like their own and that this put them in worse than usual company. Basically, they're trying to distance themselves from... themselves.

It completely undercuts republican attempts to brand Democrats as disloyal traitors. This helps kick another leg out from under the republicans re-election strategy.

Chavez, and Ahmedinijad, and Nassrallah and Castro, just Becca they dislike Bush.

And I don't understand why so many DUers do not realize that embracing these "thugs" will scare many voters who do consider themselves "patriots," are "proud to be Americans" and support, at least, the office of the "President of the United States."

I support Castro (or more accurately the Cuban people's desire to remain Socialist that he represents) and Hugo Chavez' valiant work towards a new paradigm of cooperation and caring for all of the people of Earth (not just the rich and powerful).

I don't support Ahmedinijad, he's a tool of the Ayatollahs.

As for Nassrallah, I support the Palestinian and Lebanese people and their right to chart their own democratic course. Do you have a problem with democracy?

This reminds me of a story about two brothers cussing each other out and fighting in the middle of the street....
and then in comes this other dude, who jumps in and tries to help the littlest brother.

The two brothers stop fighting immediately, look at each other, then looks at the "good samaritan"

and then the littlest brother says...."hey that's my brother you're beating on....cut that shit out, before I kick your ass!".....and whomps the "helpful" one with a right hook to the eye.

The guy wanting to help walks away rubbing his eyes saying, "hey, you looked like you needed some help to me!"

The younger brother looks at him weirdly and says...."hey, this is a family affair! I don't need you your fucking help for this, I can handle it!".

As the guy walks away.....the smaller brother hits the bigger brother in the arm...and they start fighting again.
