I can feel my hope slipping away....again.
As we get close to the Mid-terms, Bush-loving oil companies drop gas prices and Democrats sitting on sidelines and letting the Pukes reach a deal on torture. I don't think we are going to win by default.

Regarding rushing to defend Bush from Chavez, don't Rangel and Pelosi know how stupid this makes them look? If the shoe was on the other foot and Chavez insulted a Democratic president, think the Pukes would defend us? All this does is help Bush.

Really sorry to be a downer, but I'm not looking forward to November anymore. This regime is ethically bankrupt and I fear that too many Americans are perfectly comfortable with it.

1. I'm afraid I agree with you
Edited on Thu Sep-21-06 05:11 PM by LSparkle
I'm trying to fight my cynicism and despair, but now that more than one poll shows this idiot's "approval rating" rising, I'm really worried that there isn't enough of a tide to prevent another stolen election. And today especially, as we're on the verge of officially blessing what I'm afraid still counts as "torture" to the rest of the world, I'm saddened for what used to be my country.

4. Rangel and Pelosi's behavior today adds credence to the suggestion
that The Performance has already been written ... and only needs to be played out ... and all The Players know their roles by heart. :grr: I can't help but start to believe that The Representatives, either side, don't truly give a damn about The People.

I'm disgusted beyond words.

15. This is not the time to lose heart
A large part of political shifts is simply the swinging of the pendulum. And it is swinging. In Ohio polling, Brown is not up by as many as 10 points against DeWiner. Bernie Sanders is a shoe in. Sheldon Whitehouse is ahead of Chaffee. Save your disgust and pessimism until after November 7. Personally, I suspect Dems will make major inroads. I'll moan and wail and curse deaf heaven, if they don't, but until, it's over, I'm just gonna continue being hopeful and working on getting Peter Welch elected.

19. I Agree. There's this big, stupid lump in America that watches
Faux news, laps up the slogan of the day, and calls it a day. Until we can figure out how to get these collective heads out of these collective asses, it's going to be all uphill. Sorry if this sounds awfully cynical. The fact that W's numbers may have gone up is just so disturbing. What else can explain it, but outright ignorance?

2. But even the MSM is talking about political manipulation
of gas prices. I *HOPE* that people don't fall for it (i.e., the price reduction) and go back to the Pukes. That's not the only issue our there that we can win on.

in their cars to vote the party in power back in power.
They will forget that gas was actually cheaper last year
than what it will be on November 7th.

it truly make.

I fear that Pelosi especially will NOT allow any investigation of The Executive Branch.

I'll vote come November, but some people's behavior today has convinced me ---> I have lost all hope that we are a Democratic Republic. No we are A Plutocracy sliding toward totalitarian rule.

We may never regain our civil liberties. :(

6. Americans vote for who looks better.
And since too many DUers have piped in with "_____'s performance was pathetic when it didn't need to be", we're lookin' at the wrong people.

I've seen some good ads by Dems this year and some really phony ones by repubs. Only one Dem ad was as empty-feeling as the repubs'.

If the repubs win, pin it to the fickle and shallow populace who pretend that anything prior to 3 weeks before an election never existed. (I don't think the oil price situation is entirely political, but I won't deny it's a happy coincidence either.)

32. Good points
I bothers me when I see posters refer to voters as "sheeple" or "stupid lumps". I have heard Republicans refer to Democratic voters as uneducated idiots.

My guess is that the US has a bell curve distribution of intelligence and gullibility, as does any other country. My hope is that we would either figure out a strategy for appealing to the uninformed or educate them on the issues we consider important. Let us not call the electorate names when the other side successfully appeals to or educates them.

It strikes me as elitist to for them to call our voters "uneducated idiots" or us to call their voters "sheeple." For our democracy to work everyone's vote has to count the same, not just those who are more informed and " with the program."

-Wait for the Rethuglicans to self-destruct and then pick up the pieces. I keep hoping they'll figure out it's not enough, that it's essential to match aggression with aggression.

I agree that the mealy-mouthed defense of the Dear Leader by the alleged opposition just makes him look more "presidential". The thing is, Chavez didn't say one thing that isn't true. If this somehow got spun against them, they could start defending themselves by pointing that out!

I'm sick of Stockholm Syndrome Democrats.:grr:

It's about time They stood together on something. A unified front might look good going into the elections. and more importantly this just might be the most important thing they vote on in the entire Bush regieme.
They are not Democrats if they vote for it period. No oe will be safe from unfair trials and torture not in Iraq, and not here. And the fact it gives Bush absolution for many of his Warcrimes, makes it a crime itself to vote for it.

in the corner. WTF are we supposed to do, faced with that? Do we imagine that the dems will fight the pubs if the elections are stolen again, as they surely will be? They didn't fight then, they aren't fighting now, and there is no reason to think they will in the future. Are the dems happy with the pitiful crumbs that fall from the pubs' table? Guess so.

We are dealing with a man (Karl ROve) who has been doing this for his entire life in one form or another probably since he could talk. He is not to be underestimated. I think he already has his plan in place and he will launch his attack very soon as a matter of fact he has already begun. We are dealing with a criminal who will stop at nothing to keep his ass in place. He knows the stakes are very high and he will not give up so that the last two years of Bush Junta will have to answer for their crimes.

And if his paranoia, defeatism and hatred repulse you, think about this: "this regime" is in existence because people didn't fight it. Especially not the people in charge of the Democratic Party in 2000 and 2004. It takes two to tango, and one of the partners got awfully passive and lazy.

The "Americans who are perfectly comfortable with it" includes supposed progressives.

the outcome of all of these races is very much a local issue...regardless of what Bush is doing. I do see us winning back seats...but I've never thought we'd sweep with enough to gain control....we're on the road...it's not the victory lap yet. The public has to be gradually shifted back to the left...Clinton fucked us with all of his third way crap. His "moderate" stance allowed the repubs to become even whackier on the right. The nation shifted, and we're in the process of shifting it back. Be patient, and don't lose hope or listen to the DLC....they're what got us into this mess in the first place.
