Rocky Anderson, Mayor of Salt Lake City, Endorses Dean

Dr. Dean also today received the endorsement of Rocky Anderson, the mayor of Salt Lake City, who praised Dr. Dean's wisdom and courage, saying he wanted a candidate who "won't sell out to the establishment just to increase his chances of success, and who won't base his decisions on what is popular at the moment."

"We do want to be active in Utah," Dr. Dean said on a conference call accepting the endorsement. "We do plan to win in Washington and Maine and also in Wisconsin, and then we plan to go to Utah and Idaho; I don't know if we'll get to Hawaii or not, it's a long way out there. 2. The mayor backed Republican Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney's election bid.

and his campaign tactics in Utah were, uh, dubious, to say the least:

They have some highly respected titles — head of the Utah State Office of Black Affairs, chairman of the Utah Democratic Black Caucus and the treasurer of the Democratic National Committee.
Besides prestigious jobs, this threesome also has asked that their names be removed from the supporters list on Salt Lake City Mayor Rocky Anderson's campaign literature.
"I did ask them to have my name removed," said Andrew Tobias, treasurer of the DNC, in a telephone interview from New York.
Adds Bonnie Dew, the state black affairs director: "They included my name on some literature without my permission. They never asked me. I am not an endorser of Rocky Anderson."
Ditto, says Michael Styles, chairman of the Utah Democratic Black Caucus.
"It was totally wrong and inappropriate," he said.

This wouldn't be an endorsement I would relish, if I were Dean, considering the mayor's own problems with endorsements.

5. And do you know anything else about Rocky?

This coming from a Clark supporter, a guy that backed Republicans before. So just because he backed a Republican, he's bad? Him and Mitt have been good friends for a very long time and I don't believe that should be an issue at all.

Rocky has done WONDERS for Salt Lake City since he was elected in 1999. So don't give me that BS that he's a horrible mayor.

I would surmise that this is not by any means a lightweight endorsement. I don't have any knowledge about Rocky, but it will be interesting to see how this develops.
