What have YOU done to elect a Democrat in 2006?
Edited on Sat Sep-23-06 10:53 AM by nickshepDEM
Lets use this thread as a rallying point. Let everyone know what you've been up to in 2006, who your working for, and what you plan to do in the future. If we lose in November it wont be because the political climate wasnt on our side or because we were up against an unbeatable political force. It will be the result of the other team wanting it more. That simple.

*Thursday - phone banked for 3 hours for Martin O'Malley for Governor
*Plan to attend an event today with O'Malley. Hand out lit, stickers, and make a lap with the Mayor.
*Next Tuesday I will phone bank for Ben Cardin for Senate. Wed and Thursday more phone banking for O'Malley. All day Saturday canvas for local and statewide Democrats.
*Donated a little bit of cash to Democrats of my choice.

Whats on your agenda?

3. Glad to hear it. Keep up the good work.
I assume your giving most of your time to Brown because Strickland is doing so well?

Hopefully, Strickland's coattails will drag Brown across the finish line with him.

2. Many hours of handouts, flyering and phone calls here in Michigan
for Governor Granholm and Senator Stabenow. Dick scAmway Devos (R) has spent millions trying to buy the Governor's mansion, and Granholm is in a close race. Stabenow is pretty safe.

5. You name it--
Making donations, attending fundraisers, preparing targeted voter lists, going to candidates' events, putting signs in yards, printing flyers, asking for donations, meeting and greeting voters, designing ads and signs, and, mostly, encouraging our candidates to be DEMOCRATS!

6. For the most part, I have only been able to donate money
But I should be able to do some more canvassing soon.

Democrats will do well in Arkansas.

10. I didn't sign a petition to run my local rep
against my incumbent dem governor this fall. My local rep is a moderate former republican who went independent. I like him, even if I don't like all of his positions. I don't much care for my governor, even if I appreciate SOME of the work he's done.

I sent some money off to my favorite Dem, the one who most typifies the qualities I want leaders in my government to reflect, who is a rep in a different state, to help with his reelection.

I've contacted the dem challenging my "safe" republican incumbent in the house to offer my support to that team.

I attended a summer institute and listened to the Dem Superintendent of Public Instruction, who I'd just cast a vote for last spring, and didn't boo her, throw tomatoes, or let my hands slide around her neck and choke the rhetoric out of her, though I thought about it.

I'm voting for the Dem running against the conservative republican representing my district in the State House, in spite of my union's endorsement of the republican. I have to say that, looking at the two choices, the endorsement makes no sense to me at all, unless they figure that a dem can't win in this district, and they'll get something from this guy for the endorsement. (?!)

11. Lots of writing..
I've written countless letters to the editors of various online newspapers, basically saying why I'm supporting the various democratic candiates & why they are so much better for this country than the repugs...

And of course, on November 7th., will be voting a straight Democratic ticket!

12. What I have done
Money to Democracy Bonds, 1 time only contributions to DCCC and DSCC, WesPac, VoteVets, Eric Massa, my Congress Critter Candidate Roger Sharpe (running against Rubber-Stamp Virginia Foxx), State Senate and Congress candidates, Phone calls to people I know to support Watauga County Commissioner candidate, work at Democrat Headquarters once a week, canvassing today with candidate for Sheriff (GOTV effort targeted at registered Dems who often vote only in Presidential elections), sending reminder letters to people who have ordered absentee ballots in past, writing letters to other registered women. All targeted toward GOTV for known Dems. We have a very active and savy bunch of Democrat leaders here in Watauga County, NC.

13. Where to start?
I'm managing a state House campaign, help my county party where I can and am chair of my Congressional District so I've been playing a role in our US House seat too. My current position allows me to be a helpful conduit of information to many candidates, especially the state-wide ones like AG and SOS. It's beyond full time hours. If we win some crucial races I'll be more than compensated.

Cheers and on to victory in 06!!

Julie

I have worked on mailings, written letters, and attended fundraisers. I'll be going in to work for him tomorrow---missing the Steeler game---but it's worth it! :)

17. So far...
Edited on Sat Sep-23-06 09:16 PM by minnesota_liberal
Contributed to at least 10 candidates, worked on "visibility" for one candidate, wrote at least 6 letters to the editor of various newspapers, participated in my first protest march, distributed literature for party-endorsed candidates, planted 3 yard signs, donated toward our city's Instant Runoff Voting campaign and created several thought-provoking bumper stickers. Give me time, though. We still have another 7 weeks to go.

18. Volunteering two nights a week for Rendell/Casey
Soon to be four nights a week if I don't burn out.
Scheduled vacation for Nov 6&7 to work for Casey.
Donated to every Dem candidate on Sen Kerry's recent e-mail appeals (over a dozen, I believe) and the Patriot Project plus extra to Casey.
Bumper sticker, yard signs, events etc.

I think that's it.

19. donated some money to my state Rep
Cuz I know the Rethuglican who's running against him. He's a moron. So I donated money to help Andrew Romanoff (he's the Colorado State Speaker) head off Jordan Hecht. I saw him at the synagouge today for the holidays and ignored him. I'll ask him for a sign (if he has one) just to insult Hecht since my house is about 4 doors down from the synagouge.

I will also donate some money to the candidates in October. Just don't have the $ right now.

21. Visit black barber shops and get them to display my Blackwell flyer
in their windows

Post constantly on a newspaper politics blog undercutting Rs with factual information on their corruption and incompetence.

As we get closer I will be doing street canvassing in low income areas. Walk lists don't work very well in these areas.

23. A lot actually...
$500 to Rod Smith for Governor
$500 to Scott Randolph for State House 36
other money to Bill Nelson and a few other candidates around the country.

Several hundred hours each on the Smith and Randolph campaigns, additional hours on Hartage for Congress, Stewart for County Commission, Flynn for County School Board, Kolin for County Commission, Soto for State House 40, Jaspon for State Senate 22, and others - including many hours canvassing and phone banking, and many hours using my technical skills doing free database / phonelist creation for candidates, etc.

Daryl Flynn, Linda Stewart, and Scott Randolph all won.
Smith, Hartage, and Kolin all lost.
Jaspon, Soto, and Randolph still have to go again in November so I'm still helping them.
I'm also going to get more involved in Nelson and Charlie Stuart for Congress since Smith lost for Governor and Hartage lost for Congress in the primaries.

26. 16 hours of phone banking this week with plenty more to do next week.
Blech. My brain is actually starting to fry a little bit, but overall, it's been a GREAT experience. Did you hear what I said, a GREAT experience. A nice way to heal up some of the wounds from '04.
