Don't you feel safe?
Edited on Sat Sep-23-06 01:01 PM by lwcon
The media tells us that the GOP's strong suit is national security.

Don't you feel well-protected, knowing that...
  1. Bush vacationed, ignoring warnings of a levee failing in New Orleans — and then he failed to mobilize a response when the breach occurred: over 1,800 Americans died

  2. Bush vacationed, ignoring warnings of a hijacking threat from Al-Qaeda (the previous president held weekly anti-terrorism briefings; Dick Cheney's anti-terrorism task force met zero times): over 2,600 Americans died

  3. On the brink of capturing Osama Bin Laden and securing Afghanistan, Bush diverted resources to starting a disastrous war in the wrong country, and on false pretenses, transforming a hemmed-in dictatorship into a hotbed of terrorism that's on the brink of civil war; Bush's only solution is "stay the course": 2,700 Americans and more than 100,000 Iraqis civilians have died, and Afghanistan is quickly reverting to Taliban control

  4. While Bush finally admits that our "addiction to oil" endangers our environment and national security, he and fellow oilman Cheney have done nothing but ensure unprecedented influence and record profits for petroleum companies

  5. Bush has admitted to condoning torture, so the GOP Congress is granting him legal authority over it

  6. Bush broke laws against warrantless spying on Americans; the GOP Congress is re-writing the laws to absolve him of guilt and to authorize more of the same

  7. Bush's assault on the separation of church and state threatens America's long commitment to religious freedom, and led to his only veto: for a bill that supported stem-cell research, which promises cures for numerous major diseases

  8. Bush and the GOP Congress are bankrupting the national treasury, running up a $9 trillion deficit, while lavishing tax giveaways on the rich

  9. The GOP is riddled with corruption: Tom Delay, Duke Cunningham, Bob Ney, and mega-contributors Jack Abramoff and Ken Lay, to name a few

  10. Bush routinely hires people for government agencies who are either opposed to the mission of those agencies, often with blatant conflicts of interest, or without any relevant qualifications whatsoever
Doesn't that help you sleep all warm and cozy at night, with Bush on the brink of starting another war in the Middle East?

1. K&R -- Send that to all of the pundits.
Every time I hear the idiots on TV say "Security is Bush and the GOP's strongest issue" I scracth my head and say "Wha? How can anyone say that they've made anything safer?"

2. Thanks, and here are a few others...
Borders totally porous

Runaway profiteering of Iraq war money, while leaving vehicles without armor

Aggressively trying to cut holes in the economic safety net -- attacking Social Security and Medicare, and tilting laws in favor of big business by reducing safety/environmental standards and consumer protections, the ability to sue, and bankruptcy protection

Reducing standards in the armed forces (including deploying mentally ill soldiers), and exhausting the National Guard and other branches with stop-loss programs and war-without-end

No inspections of shipping containers

Anthrax murders never solved

And, of course, growing world-wide animosity toward U.S., after outrageous squandering of post-9/11 goodwill
