John Bolton Could Be Given Pay Cut and Appointed Deputy Ambassador in Bid
http://www.tpmcafe.com/

So far, there has been no sign that the Bush administration's considerable efforts to get Ambassador John Bolton confirmed are yielding any success in changing the environment currently blocking him.

But the White House has considered a shocking plan to keep the Ambassador in his position at the UN that may not involve a second recess appointment to his current position -- which would mean that he could not be compensated, may not be eligible for travel funds, may not be able to actually use government facilities for his work, and would possibly be time limited to a certain number of days that he could remain in this position, even if largely stripped of all taxpayer support.

The White House is studying appointing Bolton as one of the deputies at the United Nations, specifically the "political deputy." This position also carries the title of Ambassador, as do four other slots at the US Mission to the UN. Bolton would take a pay cut, and would then be made "Acting Ambassador" and chief of mission.

1. These a**holes never compromise or RESPECT the Legislative Branch
They run over their party member in the Senate and The House functions like an arm of the SS. :(

There are NO checks NOR balances for this *criminal* and *corrupt* Executive Branch.

May the Lord have mercy on our souls. I'm so ashamed of my Government.

2. Clinton did the exact same thing
Now, he did have an agreement that the person would only serve for one year, but it is important to realize this is legal, constitutional and with precedent.

4. No, IMO it's not appropriate

The Executive Branch is like the school yard bully. We all have to cough up our lunch money to please this hideous beastie.

It's about time that he respected our Legislative Branch.

These ghouls are shameless, even if it's legal, doesn't make it moral or appropriate to pull for someone who has proclaimed to be "A Uniter." :puke:

5. I agree with you
Wait a minute, are you saying I am pulling for Bush?

Please tell me I am not understanding you correctly.

All I am saying is if you complain about this, you have to realize that both parties have used this tactic.

And that this tactic is legal and constitutional.

I would rather complain about their unconstitutional and illegal activities. That way, maybe people will take me seriously.

6. Good post
We have to choose our battles. If, as you say, Clinton used this method, then we enter this battle with one hand behind our back already.

As you say, there's no shortage of unconstitutional and illegal activities to target. Let's go after the low fruit on the tree, and be sure of a good harvest.

Peace.
