BUSH KEEPS HIS ANGUISH HIDDEN
Start beating your heads against the wall. This article made me crazy. Someone at the Whitehouse leaked this to show how much Bush "cares." All it does is make me even more angry for the families who are suffering because Bush sent their loved ones to die.

Complete article at the link

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14991955/

Selected excerpts below:

Two sides
The two sides of Bush as commander in chief can be hard to reconcile. His public persona gives little sense that he dwells on the costs of war. He does not seem to agonize as Johnson did, or even as his father, George H.W. Bush, did before the Persian Gulf War. While he pays tribute to those who have fallen, the president strives to show resolve and avoid displays that might be seen as weak or doubting. His refusal to attend military funerals, while taking long Texas vacations and extended bicycle rides, strikes some critics as callous indifference.

If he does not show that publicly, it's in keeping with a White House practice of not drawing attention to the mounting costs of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, which have killed more than 3,000 U.S. troops and tens of thousands of civilians. Advisers worry that sending the wrong signal would further sap public will and embolden the enemy and Bush's critics. Aides say that Bush does not attend military funerals because the presidential entourage would disrupt solemn events and that the media have been banned from photographing coffins arriving at Dover Air Force Base out of respect. But they also know it would draw unwelcome attention to the price of the president's policies.

Many presidents confront the burden of ordering troops into danger. Johnson was tormented by the Vietnam War, padding down to his war room in slippers and robe at night to check on casualty numbers. Taped telephone calls, published by historian Michael Beschloss, reveal the depth of anguish. "I want to be called every time somebody dies," Johnson declared. He took to bed, depressed. Aides consulted psychiatrists. "He suffered," biographer Robert Dallek said. "It certainly took a toll on him. You could see it in his face at the end of his term. He was so old and careworn." Bush deals with stress through vigorous exercise, working out six days a week. When he goes for long bicycle rides, he often invites others to join him, but he asks them not to ride in front of him so he can have the illusion of solitude. "Riding helps clear my head, helps me deal with the stresses of the job," he told reporters last month after an 80-minute ride.

When Bush walked in, Halley told him about Patrick, how they had met at American University, moved to Maine and had a family. "After I spoke about my husband for quite some time, I said, 'And now he's dead. For what? Why? I've lost my soul mate.' " She asked her children, Mikayla, 14, and Jan-Christian, 12, to leave the room, then wept as she told Bush how hard life had become for them. "He started crying. I said, 'These two children do not like you and they have good reason for that. And I hold you responsible for the death of my husband.' " Bush seemed surprised that she opposes even the war in Afghanistan and cited the Taliban. "And I said, 'Who put them in power?' And he got a little defensive and said, 'I'm really not here to discuss public policy with you.' And I said, 'That's probably wise, and I'm not here to talk about public policy, either.' "

1. He's a emphathy-less psychopath.
If he ever cried, it was crocodile tears of sorrow for what he knew he'd be held accountable for.

14. It reminds me of Goofus and Gallant from Hi-Lites Magazine
Remember those lame doctor's office magazines and there was this cartoon called "Goofus and Gallant." One frame would show Gallant walking old ladies across the street and Goofus would splash mud on the old lady as he whizzed by on his bike. And the lesson was one of contrasts - and we should all try to be more Gallant like than Goofus.

The stupid news folk have set that up on the MSNBC page. Gallant = Bush grieving in solitude. Goofus - Mean ole' Bill Clinton gettin' mad. I hope all the Dems take heed of BC's reaction to this and start swinging FOR A CHANGE!:banghead:

4. IMO Dear Leader is not capable of the feeling "anguish" nor "regret"
Those are foreign emotions to a true Sociopath. More than one within The Executive Branch meet the DSM-IV criteria. :wow:

But he does put up one hell of a TANTRUM when he doesn't get his way. :scared:

Dear Leader is as emotionally shallow as your local school yard bully.

9. ACCORDING TO THE WIKIPEDIA DEFINITION OF SOCIOPATH
Edited on Sun Sep-24-06 11:30 PM by powergirl
Chapter V of the tenth revision of the International Classification of Diseases offers a set of criteria for diagnosing the related construct of dissocial personality disorder.

Dissocial Personality Disorder (F60.2), usually coming to attention because of a gross disparity between behavior and the prevailing social norms, and characterized by:

callous unconcern for the feelings of others; (Ignoring Cindy Sheehan, riding bikes instead of rescuing flood victims)

gross and persistent attitude of irresponsibility and disregard for social norms, rules, and obligations; (groping heads of state)

incapacity to maintain enduring relationships, though having no difficulty in establishing them;

very low tolerance to frustration and a low threshold for discharge of aggression, including violence; (War)

incapacity to experience guilt or to profit from experience, particularly punishment; (stay the course)

marked proneness to blame others, or to offer plausible rationalizations, for the behavior that has brought the patient into conflict with society. (That was Clinton's deal)

There may also be persistent irritability as an associated feature. Conduct disorder during childhood and adolescence, though not invariably present, may further support the diagnosis.

6. Rove, ban photographing coffins arriving at Dover Air Base, that's where
Nixon scrwed up, - the american people got fed up watching those coffins being displayed on the nightly news and caused resentment over Nam war.

Rove, and while your at it, keep american protesters off the air and discourage when possible!

Rove, and while your at it, keep the bad news from getting out of Iraq.

and the; "no you may not" response is typical when asked for follow up question to Bush's half-assed/answered response.

10. ya, it's pretty bizarre
to watch shrubya mangle a tough question into dribbling bafoonery, repeating what he can remember about the subject in his drunken early morning stupor, then see him force no follow up to his garble so he doesn't have to answer (most) questions.

we're suffering a horrible presidency, more than we can accept emotionally, and like kpete said along these lines, I'm getting angry!

12. Anguish, my ass. The only time the dumbass feels any
pain is when he's fallen over drunk and smashed his face into the floor. He's incapable of empathy and simply doesn't give a shit about the misery he causes others. And,only a deeply disturbed person could have ended the day of 9/11 on a "relatively humerous note" as Bush claims he did. He's despicable.

13. Bush believes he's making defense and oil co.'s happy, he's doing fine
regardless of how many die for his cause, Bush is, this is war and I'm sorry to say that in wars, people do die BS. Bush invented a goto war strategy and is milking it for whatever he can get, "Bush; it will be up to future presidents to determine the outcome of the Iraq war" -> this much he is sure of...

23. Actually this is a great article the shows he DOESN"T CARE.
The reference about Halley and her visit cinched it. This was NOT media whoring in the least. It really shone a rational light on an irrational individual, Bush. It indicated he opens up to NO one, even close friends and no one even knows if he speaks to his father. It contrasted him and the anguish of other presidents and showed him not experiencing any.So they balanced it with a quote from a parent who projected thei own humanity on Bush and thought he might have cared. In all it was not an article favorable to Bush. It was more convincing as it was balanced.r

30. But...but..but Katie Couric knew about his anguish:
From the CBS "interview" of B*sh
COURIC: I know you care so much about the soldiers in Iraq. And when we told some of them we had an opportunity to speak with you, almost all of them said, "Would you please ask the President of the United States when can we come home?"

BUSH: Mmm. And the answer is when the mission is done. When your commanders decide you can. You know, it's interesting you said that. It's – I get a little different response from the soldiers I meet, you know? I – frankly, I've never had one say that.

Or was she (gasp) just making that up about him caring?! :sarcasm:
