Via CNN's Late Edition with Wolf Blitzer:
BLITZER: Let's move on and talk a little bit about Iraq. Because this is a huge, huge issue, as you know, for the American public, a lot of concern that perhaps they are on the verge of a civil war, if not already a civil war…. We see these horrible bodies showing up, tortured, mutilation. The Shia and the Sunni, the Iranians apparently having a negative role. Of course, al Qaeda in Iraq is still operating.
BUSH: Yes, you see — you see it on TV, and that's the power of an enemy that is willing to kill innocent people. But there's also an unbelievable will and resiliency by the Iraqi people…. Admittedly, it seems like a decade ago. I like to tell people when the final history is written on Iraq, it will look like just a comma because there is — my point is, there's a strong will for democracy. Yeah, that's the ticket. Just a comma, or did he mean to say coma? Now I don't think you'll find too many people who will say that Junior has always been good....you know...with the words, but this "comma" line is like a slap in the face. Actually it's like getting slapped in the face after getting pee'd on and your car stolen.
Just a comma. Just a blip on the radar. Just a skid mark in the overall shit tsunami.
President Bush likes to talk about the big picture. Down the line. Or as he might say, he's a long thinker, or a far looker. But stopping short of cracking him across the knee with an exclamation point, I have a few questions to ask.
Mr. President, how can you call 2700 dead American soldiers just a comma?
Mr. Long Thinker, how can you call hundreds of billions of dollars of American taxpayer money just a comma?
Mr. Thong Linker, how can you call 100,000+ dead innocent civilians just a comma?
Mr. Decider, was the attack on 9/11 just a comma in the story leading up to this war on terror? It seems that anything and everything that happens that leads to something larger is just a comma in your way of thinking. You've campaigned and won got re-elected on the backs of 3,000 dead Americans. You've used September the 11th to rally your base, divide the country, and scare the hell out of all of us. Being that you are the decider, how is it that you decide the scale of importance for each comma?
Mr. President, I voted for you in 2000, and you failed me. You've failed America. I realize that you have gotten to where you are today by having everything handed to you on a silver platter, and all your mistakes up until your presidency have mysteriously been erased. For that, maybe we should put some blame on daddy. But daddy has nothing to do with this war, and not having him involved was just the beginning of a long list of mistakes. Or commas. A long list of fucked up punctuation.
After 9/11, you had us. You had ALL of us. Not just in this country, but abroad. Sending troops to Afghanistan was backed by most everyone, and was absolutely the right thing to do. Iraq on the other hand was a mistake. And, even though you obviously can't admit it outloud, you know it was. You also know how poorly planned the entire operation was.
I'm sure you honestly thought that with Saddam out of the picture, things would be peachy. You were wrong. Things aren't peachy. Not warm and fuzzy, not hugs and kisses, not flowers and candy. Things are worse. The number of attacks are growing and according to a recent assesment of terrorism, "the American invasion and occupation of Iraq has helped spawn a new generation of Islamic radicalism and that the overall terrorist threat has grown since the Sept. 11 attacks."
So what now? Stay the course? That plan hasn't worked thus far, but a course of action being a miserable failure never stopped you before. You don't read the papers. I'm quite certain that you don't read blogs. Unfortunately this message will never find its way. But for a moment lets just pretend. We like to pretend, don't we Mr. President.
Mr, President, would, you, kindly, stop, being, such, a, colossal, moron, for, just, enough, time, to, realize, things, are, not, going, well, and, change, is, not, necessarily, a, bad, thing, and, when, I, say, "colossal", I, mean, it, in, the, largest, of, scales, unlike, your, comma, view, on, 100,000+, dead,
