news business was like expecting candy stores to be in the nutrition business.

The purpose of a TV channel is to make money by selling advertising to sponsors. The sponsors want to see which demographic the channel/program pulls in. That is ALL they care about.

That's why Fox has run the Simpson's for years and did run Michael Moore's program at one time.

Occasionally a top brass type will pull a program he considers ideologically offensive (recent examples: Phil Donohue off MSNBC, Jim Hightower off ABC radio; older example: the Lou Grant series in the 1970s, the Smothers Brothers in the 1960s), but by and large, the truth or quality of their programming is the last thing on a broadcasting executive's mind, such as it is.

...own cable news network, an attempt is being made with donations from ordinary people and foundations to launch a news network from progressives in September 2007.

The network would be called "Independent World Television" and the main show would be called "The Real News."
